This is the list for the deck I piloted at the Dallas regional it performed much better than I expected. The Iron Mines really helped sure it up with five saves in the deck I felt safe to really over extend in the early game and not lose my key characters.

So the game plan is to try to get one of either Baylon, Theon or Asha on set up with some chud to round out and if your lucky some boats. As long as you get a spread of icons you can make your initial push work. If they set up at least three characters its usually a good call to flip calling the banners to get the gold to drop in one of the big three. Turn one its not uncommon for this deck to grab 5-7 power. After that it just does not care what the other side is doing and tries to push at least 2 challenges through a turn and close out the game turn 3 or 4. Between the saves and things like the Drowned men you dont care alot about what they can hit you with and just make sure they fail the power challenge.

MVP cards for the deck are the Big 3 and the Drowned men they easily get up to 6-7 strength most games before pumps and can be your defense and keep them from stealing your power.

I am more than happy to answer any questions in the comments.

whats gonna change post tournament?

Shey 124

The only thing I could think is squeezing in another Iron Mine but thats the only thing that comes to mind till the next chapter pack.

How do you deal with a FSoW?

Shey 124

I mostly just shrug it off and let my drowned men and big guys do their job. Small board's are nice for the deck and the Long ships make it so I can get the unopposed even easier.

Beknirvana 184

First of all, well done. I can see why you made a lot of the decisions you did an I agree with them for the most part.

Second, are you using Calling the Banners as the default opener? I have been thinking about using that over Taxation since it will produce the same or more amount of gold (it is an idiom of the game to not open with a single character in fear of March). And did you feel like you lost anything only running 1 Great Kraken?

Shey 124

I will typically open with either Calling the Banners or Heads on Spikes depending on the match up and board post set up. If I was unable to get out a big character on set up or did not see economy I go with calling. If I can be greedy or I think I have a good chance to hit a character in hand I use Heads on Spikes.

As for Great Kraken when I saw it was nice it would help my accelerate by half a turn. Though that was never enough to make more than the 1x slot all the other locations tended to be more important to keeping my momentum and its cost was a tempo hit.

Would you not consider cutting damphair? Just wondering how many times you actually triggered his reaction.

Shey 124

I have considered cutting him but it just feels nice to have the potential back up plan. I have been able to trigger him in playtesting with drowned men standing. In the end I am willing to give a slot to the potential to hop my dead asha or baylon back on to the board.

@Shey How do you deal with the mirror match?

Shey 124

@Crabshack101 the mirror is an interesting match up I can typically go first thanks to my plot deck. That plus longships are the ideal way to play round them getting out baylon or any stealth people. Then weapons at the door for if they run attachments. I really enjoy the mirror match up it makes you have to get clever with who you send for challenge's and the order you do them.

Crabshack101 7

@SheyHave you played a Lanni/Krakken. I found that to be most difficult with this build.

Shey 124

I don't have to much trouble with that match up it can be annoying if they get Syrio out with a stealth character. As long as they don't hit that critical mass of stealth I just get slowed down a turn or 2. The iron mines have done serious work for me in this match up.

SirLargeness 470

Lanni Krakken had a tough go of it in dallas, i think there were 4-5 in attendance and none got to even top 16

Crabshack101 7

Seems like mebe it is a good counter to GJ Lotc lol but not so much otherwise :p

Hey Shey, nice deck! I'm getting ready for Regionals in Colorado and looking forward to playing GJ myself, and i have a question for you.

Was there much Baratheon (kneeling) in Dallas? I've played a fair number of games against my buddy and he favors the Stag, it's always a close match but I generally lose as the Kraken with such strong control keeping my big dudes knelt for the whole game.

I'm debating some of the non-character cards and considering some Seal of the Hand (I figure that it's becoming less common for Bara, or Lanni for that matter to run attachment removal) to fight back against kneel effects.

Plus, I am running Euron and putting a Seal on him or Balon would be pretty gross.

Anyway, did you see much Baratheon, and if so, what tactics did you employ?

Shey 124

My only loss in Swiss was to Bara was able till seastone Mel but Bob plus Syrio made a strong wall. My plan is typically mulligan to try to get raiding longships or sea stone chair in my set up. If I can do that I can typically can power through the kneel if they get it. Heads on Spikes is typically my open unless they get monster set up. If I get lucky and hit a problem card with heads on spikes it's smooth sailing. If they get to the stealth characters it's just hope you get your longships and keep pushing.

I personally don't run Euron because of my plots economy he was a dead card a fair bit. If you can make him work seal is worth it for no other reason than make's the mirror easier.

What did you lose to in the top 4? Is Bara the toughest matchup do you think?

Shey 124

I lost to the Targ/lion that won. I think that is the decks toughest match up. The Bara match up is tough if they get a good set up but even then if I don't get greedy I can win. Targ/Lion can just level so much pressure with its kill. All of that said I did get to about 9-10 power against it. The 5 saves I run if I see them can help buy me the time to get to my critical mass of power I need but man its rough. Mirri Maz Duur is a scary card for this deck.

Crabshack101 7

@SheyI was going to mentioned possible using Nightmares then you mentioned Mirri Maz Duur. I really think it is powerful for the mirror match and for cards like Mirri. Thoughts?

Shey 124

That is on the short list of things to test. I think the we do not sow will be leaving the deck so those seems to be right call.

Crabshack101 7

@Shey The power of Nightmare is four-fold imho. It has the ability to be used against the mirror and stealth. t can blank powerful locations such as The Seastone Chair , Ghaston Grey, etc. , it can deal with powerful characters like Tywin Lannister and Mirri Maz Duur, lastly it can be used as a trick out of hand reducing telegraphing.

Shey 124

I think you are right. It serves the purpose of milk with the added bennifit of hitting noncharacter targets. While not getting in the way of raiding Longship or the chair. I will have to try it out tonight during playtesting.

Crabshack101 7

I am going to run it at Colorado Regionals this weekend with your deck probably taking out the we do not sows. I agree it is like a GJ Specific version of Milk of the Poppy. Do you find the Superior Claim working well?

Shey 124

Superior Claim helps you be able to gain 10 power out of no where it's always a solid card in my opinion. With the unopposed and strength pump you can trigger it pretty easy. I was always happy to see it in hand.

Crabshack101 7

`@Sheyso The Seastone Chair only a one of is an interesting choice. Did you ever feel like you drew it and were just angry it wasn't something else?

Crabshack101 7

sorry Great Kraken but also same question with the The Seastone Chair

Shey 124

Great kraken is nice if you can play it at worst it is protection for hand or give you something to bluff with. Same with the chair but it use ally can come out with the one cost.

SirLargeness 470

Great Kraken just doesnt do enough to support its 3 cost and justify more than a one of. again, its a nice effect, but the act of simply playing Great Kraken can be a tempo hit, which this deck usually cant afford. 2 of seems fine for a seastone chair, cause killing guys is great, but since this deck is so Blue Pants oriented it can be fine with just running.

Aceidol 15

I actually dropped We Do Not Sow for The Kraken's Grasp to help insure I can get the extra power with Superior Claim when I really need it. Also has the bonus of creating unopposed challenges early.

repek 1

Very nice deck! I played it at Cracow's Regional Tournament with no testing at all (I replaced We Do Not Sow with Nightmares which was a good idea for me). 4-3 was a fair score.

Crabshack101 7

@repek did the same mods and took top 4 in Colorado Regionals. Good build @Shey!!!

jolivas 1

@SheyMy friend and I are in Fort Worth and trying to get into the game, but are having trouble finding people who play. Is there a specific shop or place where the local community meets up to play and practice?

Shey 124

@jolivas I am not sure I am out of the Oklahoma City community though I will say post to the agot 2ed edition facebook group and they should be able to point you in the right direction. @Crabshack101Way to go on the Top 4 finish was deck did you end up losing to? If it was Targ I think the new attachment in true steel for grayjoy will do some serious work vs Targ.

Crabshack101 7

It was actually a mirror match that can down to a turn 6 coin flip on iterative we both had 14 power, and played A Clash of Kings. He had two long ships and a bunch of non stealthers and I had a bunch of stealthers and no ships :3. So it was whoever won the coin flip won the game literally. There were actually 3 Greyjoys/X decks in the top 4.

Does the new GJ attachment protect against PTTS as well?

KenkakuKnight 1

@SheyAny thoughts to adding Drowned God's Blessing to the mix? Giving the big 3 potentially a +3 from the Priests.

Shey 124

Trying to find room for potentially 2x of it mostly so I dont have to worry about getting blasted by Targ or hit with Put the the Sword.
