With the release of the Valar, I decided to go back to my beloved Greyjoy. The deck is still in development, but I'm proud of it now. Was the first tournament here in Milan, after the release of the Valar and the curiosity to see him in action in a tournament was great. 21 Players attend to the tournament

Do not like who Banner Greyjoy for convenience, loyalty to the Kraken!

Fun Fact: The Final is thematic with TV Show :)

1) Baratheon Summer (W)

2) Baratheon Fealty (W)

3) Targaryen Fealty (W)

4) Lannister LOTC (W)

5) Tyrell/Kraken (W)

Top 8 - Night Watch Fealty (W)

Top 4 - Lannister LOTC (W)

Final - Greyjoy/Dragon (L)

hallo nice decklist!!! i am glad that are still people who dont like the idea of double houses.i have a question dont you need Close Call in deck or Aeron Damphair (Core)? also how do you see Weapons at the Door works? not a better idea to include Battle of Oxcross ? thank you for your time

Lawyer 426

@theon greyjoygoing in order: Close Call is not necessary, i have enought save and copies of the key char to manage every single match. In adding that plot have a low initiative, and i have already two plots with zero, each one indispensable for my strategy. The rest of the plot deck must be with high initiative, trying to go first in order to win the game. Aeron Damphair (Core) is a good character of course, but need to win dominance to trigger the ability and that means being less aggressive and if necessary, defensive just to have enought str to win dom. You don't really need him with eight saving cards and dupes. Weapons at the Door is amazing for Greyjoy, I've Always played it in all my kraken decks 'cose of hight initiative and forced reaction that allows you to gain a free turn from opponent's attachment ( Craven, Milk of the Poppy, and Martell's icon removal ) if you have not won yet with Rise of the Kraken is an excellent closing plot. At last, Battle of Oxcross is useless, there are already enough stealth and renown resources to win the game

Pr1celess 1

Why do you use Summons? When you play it and for what charachter you are searching for?

MythoS 79

@Lawyer Is it possible that Confiscation could be replaced with something more tempo-oriented since you're running Weapons anyway?

Lawyer 426

@Pr1celess Summons is a tool plot in this deck. I use it not for search a specific charachter, but to find copies for the charachter already in play, or that i have in hand, and i can play with the economy resources that turn. Of course, if i do not find copies, I try to favor the big guys.

@MythoS In my vision, the Greyjoys do four things well: Rush, Saving, Location control, and Attachment control these two last things mainly thanks to We Do Not Sow that is a really versatile card, then i'm trying to focus the deck on these strengths. Confiscation + Weapons at the Door cover the deck from attachment in a so strong way. You don't really like a Milk of the poppy in the wrong moment, then if i am unable to pass UO and i can't play We do not Sow, i have available a silver bullet for that, with good stats anyway.

Nestalim 1

Why so much x2 key character ?

Lawyer 426

@Nestalim is a question of available slot key char have a high cost then run each of them in 3x decreases the average setup. If i have to choose probably i will play one less The Reader to find room for +1 Victarion Greyjoy or Euron Crow's Eye but I'm feeling good as well, and I prefer to have a one more copy of Teh Reader that is one of the poor sources of draw of the deck. In adding all the key char are Lord or Lady, and i have two Bodyguard to dupe them. In my strategy i bet much, on Balon and Asha's stealth + reaction.

Kingnothing 1

Why no new Aeron Damphair? I think he's a good control charakter expecially saves becomes more important in the meta

Lawyer 426

@FreiwildJust because is a cost 6 non loyal card. The winning condition of the deck is to collect power more fast as you can then the slots are reserved to Victarion Greyjoy. The saves are important in this deck and in current meta, but do not justify the investment on Aeron Damphair (TIMC) anyway the Greyoy Crew of the shop tried it, and he didn't have a decisive role in our decks

I've played a little bit with this deck, and I quite like it, thanks for sharing the list!

However, I've questions/doubts about the fealty agenda. There are very few loyal characters in the deck (most of which are 2x), and locations aren't much better. Excluding events, there are only 13 loyal cards in the draw deck, which isn't much room for enjoying fealty.

So I wonder what're your thoughts about fealty, and whether you've considered running a different agenda. The only really compelling use cases I can see right now for fealty are the 3x "we do not sow", but that isn't much, is it?

Lawyer 426

@zackI use Fealty to reduce Balon, Euron, The Reader, and Great Kraken if needed, and this is enough, for my strategy and of course to play we do not sow. The deck needs all the possibile economy to play the key char with save/dupes. The number of loyal card isn't a problem just because the other agendas don't inspire me. I never liked The Lord of the Crossing for Greyjoy it force you to play in a certain way, and building the deck in a different way, loosing Euron for example, just because is a cost 7 and you have not the fealty agenda and with Valar around, if you miss the icon the agenda is useless ( tha is the reason because GJ LOTC usually play House Maester ). The same is for the banners i don't like to mix the factions, earning some good cards but losing possibilities for the main House. it's frustrating to draw dead cards like a banner reducer, when you need a strong charachter with renown to win the game. XD Speaking about the seasons, Kings of Winter does not justify an investment on it. There are not enough cards that support a strategy. As i said above, if you want more loyal cards is easy to find room for another one Euron, or maybe you can in adding dupe Pyke

zack 126

@Lawyer I was more thinking of "The Rains of Castamere", but it is even more true for that agenda than for the others you mentioned that it forces a different deck construction all together (e.g., adding more icons and or attachments that give them). So, fair enough for your answer :-)

Speaking of economy: I was surprised of noticing only 2x on Sea Tower. How about dropping 1x King Balon's Solar to bump up Sea Tower to 3x? I've hard time imagining situations where /conditional/ golds (as per King Balon's Solar) would be better than certain money (as per Sea Tower).

With many thanks for your feedback!

Lawyer 426

@zackyou're welcome, thanks for discussion, is important to hear opinions for the future development of the deck.

There is a debate on location with my meta mates: There is who has sacrificed the 3x Iron Fleet Scout finding room also for one copy of The Eyrie that i really like as meta response. but the scouts imho are still important for Balon, and in general against Targaryen, that in a tournament you always find. I've removed one Sea Tower only to have one less limited card and Calling the Banners boost the economy when you need before Valar, or later with 5-6 gold then King Balon's Solar reinforce the economy during the turns where you want to win initiative, and except for T2 where i usually play Summons loosing the initiative is not a problem since A Noble Cause + Fealty with a good setup is a turn with a solid economy and during Valar Morghulis i should have enoght char on the board to resist. Don't forgetting the Salty Navigator the with the +1 bonus can make you win the initiative.

Anyway, there are no problems, is possible to remove one scout, replacing it with the s.tower. I played the deck in both ways.

zack 126

Note that I was talking specifically about Sea Tower v King Balon's Solar, because they're both economy. Not about Towers v. other locations—which I agree are all very much needed in this deck.

The only reasons I can see to not max out Towers is that they're limited (while Solar is not) and that they only produce economy for cards, but in a Fealty deck neither seem very strong reasons to me.

But I did get your general point that you've played both ways, and they seem both viable :-) I'll give it a spin with 3x Towers and see how it goes.

Cheers.

Lawyer 426

Yes, i know, mine was a general overview about location, because to play King Balon's Solar with 61 cards, something must be cut. Is a really good economy card

Robs 1

@LawyerCouple questions. How many plots you normally reveal to finish the game ? Why The Roseroad over Sea Tower ? The latter is faster, which better suits Greyjoy playstyle. And why two attachment control plots ? What if an opponent plays no attachments ? You have two dead plots instead of maybe one if you choose one or the other.

Lawyer 426

@Robs I have already answered some of these questions in previous posts. Anyway, the deck usually can win the game in 3 or 4 plots but hard matches happens and it can play quietly 5 or 6 plots, Valar Morghulis is your ally.

On the attachments, i always played Greyjoy attachment free deck. Is not a control deck, then you don't really need Milk of the Poppy and in house attachment are not decisive, in adding they can stop The Seastone Chair with which put pressure on the opponent.

The two plots you asked for are explained above, but they are not rendundant: Confiscation is a silver bullet, i play it, when i need it. Weapons at the Door with initiative value of 9 is an alternative closing plot ensuring to go first, and covering form opponent's attachments in that decisive turn. In adding is a hard weapon against Night Watch right now, and in future with Dragonglass Dagger

Robs 1

Sorry for repeating questions you already answered, I must have omitted some of your earlier comments. Nevertheless thank you for the response.

I frankly don't like to play Confiscation for I feel I'm wasting plot slot for removing only one attachment. But at the same time I understand why people play this plot. The possibility of removing that one pesky Milk of the Poppy or Craven on demand is very tempting. On the other hand I simply love Weapons at the Door in Greyjoy. Won me couple of tight games.

If I'd made a single change to your plot deck I would swap Confiscation for A Clash of Kings. Better initiative and stronger finishing capabilities.

Do you still find Asha Greyjoy that impactful to run her 3x ? Recently I play her only one of to make room for 3rd copies of Euron Crow's Eyeand Victarion Greyjoy. Vicky is such a powerful addition to the house. I feel he is the strongest 6 coster in Greyjoy, and maybe even in the whole game at the moment.

Lawyer 426

My feelings with the plots are good, I've tried A Clash of Kings in a previous version of the deck instead of Confiscation and later Weapons at the Door but in both ways it didn't satisfy me, but of course is a valid option anyway.

i'm focusing a lot my strategy on Asha Greyjoy, is the best stealth char for Greyjoy ensuring when the game is going well two challenges with stealth and with The Seastone Chair is a huge vantage.

Victarion Greyjoy and Euron Crow's Eye are both really strong but i have to make compromises since all this char have an high cost but of course the numer of copies can be arranged all depends by personal choices

Statusunquo 1

@Lawyer - very nice deck. Definately going to try it.

A question: didn't you find character cards too few? Would you add any character cards?

Do you maybe have a link to the deck against which you lost?

Lawyer 426

@Statusunquo Thank you.

The deck don't require too much charachter 30-32 is enough. Your priority is to hold on the board the Greyjoy's Brothers. The other deck is not published but you can watch the final here: www.youtube.com

I've played a bad game, my opponent see better cards than me, and i've make bad choices. I've tested aganist the same deck and player days before the tournament, it was like a friendly match for me :)

FreqKing 14

Just wanted to say nice job and thanks. I sleeved up this deck and went 4-0 to sweep our small store championship.

Lawyer 426

@FreqKingThank you for your compliments. Grats! really happy that you enjoyed the deck having fun! Now the deck is a little bit different Sea Bitch is a must and i'm playing Time of Plenty instead of Summons, just to have a summer with good economy to stop the NW's Winter Festival

martin87 1

@LawyerHi, how did you make changes in the deck after the release Guarding the Realm? Do you play this deck in the current meta? Thank you for the answer.

Lawyer 426

@martin87i'm not playing the deck right now, is a bad time for Greyjoy since the did not receive a good card since Victarion. Are bad time for the Kraken also 'cose Targaryen will be the dominant T1 decks. Then the deck is the same. Probably if i have to play this deck now, i would make little changes

-1 The Seastone Chair ( not more effective)

+1 Newly-Made Lord for more location hate

-1 Theon Greyjoy +1 Drowned Men ( more long-lived against Targ for Str boost Vs Targaryen )

if you like, 1xEsgred for more stealth, but have the weakeness in str

Statusunquo 1

@Lawyer Hi. Do you have a link to your updated deck?

Lawyer 426

@Statusunquo sorry for the huge delay response, actualy i'm playing this: thronesdb.com

martin87 1

@LawyerHi, did you make any changes in the package for the last 2 months ? Thank you for the answer.
