Firstly, Are you are a mediocre player who wants to do well at a tournament? Do you want a deck which forgives play mistakes? Want a deck where you don't have to think very much, once you know the deck?

Play this.

Have you got a soul? Do you like people?

Don't play this

So, I have been playing mostly Bara and NW on and off since core set, I've flirted with Martel and Lannister but always preferred these degenerate decks... but then I guess all those decks have been hated at one point or another.

Shout out to Richard Walker and Mikee Bone for turning me to Bara fealty (I had been playing summer before).

The basic idea is that Chamber of the Painted Table thrives on a small board.... but Bara don't like Varys or Valar, which is why Tyrell Stag and Martel Stag have done well recently. Huh... that doesn't seem fair... Those are Bara's toys. What can Baratheon do to keep the board really small, but not have to deal with lots of reset? Core Stannis. Once King Stannis came out I, initially, said I would never play core stannis again.... god was I wrong.

So, I will go through some key cards in the deck as well as some exclusions and then talk about some key match ups using examples from the two tournaments. Not playing against a lot of Lannister running First Snow made things alot easier.

Key Decisions Cressen- I didn't expect much milk and I expected alot of resets so 1 Cressen and a confiscation... If there were alot of attachments in the meta I would be tempted by more... maybe.

Chamber of the Painted Table- You should be running 3 of these. It helps in every match up and saves your life when your character base falls apart (to agro) or a key character dies. Finding it first helps you win the mirror and it destroys NW.

Core Stannis- Like I said earlier, he is basically a Varys for this deck. However, he is a Varys you can cheat with the Fiery Followers.

Northern Refugee- These are a BAD card, but they are a 2 cost int pow bicon. It was either them or House Maester and they help in the agro (high claim) match ups where the pressure can overwhelm you if you don't draw the right answers, they are very funny against Famine.

Consolidation of Power- I have found Even Handed Justice too expensive to play on a number of occasions and with Core Stannis you don't want to be kneeling your own character, it is reducable with fealty and was amazing every time I drew it.

Building Orders- Honestly I think this may be the best plot in the deck, Time of Plenty is a close second, searching for that key bodyguard, assembling your dominance package or just getting the Red Keep for card draw.

Red Keep- Play it as earlier as possible, in the 1st couple of rounds it feels like a massive tempo swing, but that card draw will win you the game in the long run. If you don't have it... the deck can stall and you need to play defensively (be really cautious with your kneel cards, use them only when you absolutely HAVE to).

Valar- Do not play out a key character without a dupe or a Bodyguard unless you are absolutely sure they are not running Valar, or Valar will damage their board more than yours. I would often try to draw out a Valar by placing an unduped key character (probably Stannis) on the board when I still a better character in hand.

Kingroad- I think most people have learnt this lesson by now, but leaving your Kingsroads on the board until you absolutely need them is key. This goes back to playing around Valar and Varys.

Things I missed

Counting Coppers- Sometimes I just wanted more cards, in those match ups where you don't find the keep. Any 2 cost bicon with an intrigue icon other than Northern Refugee.... it really is a bad card in this deck... I'd really like an inhouse one... wishful thinking.

Match Ups

Rugby

Rob Seymour: Tyrell Wolf

Controlled Roose and ground out the game.

Daniel Kaye: Night's Watch Kraken

Found all the kneel and when I wasn't kneeling out Dan's board I used In the Name of your King to just stop a Mil challenge Dan over-committed to trying to trigger Relentless Assault/PttS.

Mikee Bone: Bara Fealty I found Chamber First.

Dan Gallagher: Greyjoy Rains Greyjoy is one of the main reasons I like Bara, I just hate playing against them as any other faction. Kneel it!

Stefan Fotheringham: Tyrell Wolf Controlled Roose to begin with, then he Valar'd (I think I lured it out with an unduped Stannis) but by that point I was ahead and ground out the game.

Top Four Daniel Kaye: Night's Watch Kraken

Loss- Qhorin ripped my board apart early, I couldn't find the answers I needed. I dragged it out and the game went to time. At the end of the game there was a slim chance I could turn it around. However, I got well and truely outplay in this game. Well done Daniel for winning the whole thing!

Northampton

Secondary Dave: Night's Watch Fealty

Bara beats NW, using kneel to get some unopposed, dom tech to race power when I couldn't

Richard Walker: Lannister Fealty- Lose

2 Heads on Spikes.... erg! He ripped my hand apart in the first turn, I was left with 2 Bob's in hand and he flipped Heads.. So sad... The rest of the game was be trying to get out some sort of impactful characters.

Ben Royles: Tyrell Wolf

Ben was late back from lunch and started the game abit flustered, made a few mistakes. By the time he had settled back down I was ahead. He got Roose off twice, killing 5/6 chud characters the first time and Mel and Stannis the second time :-O. However, I closed out the game with Bob.

Louis Woodhouse: Targ Kraken

I knew Louis' deck quite well, he is one of Northampton's newest players and was doing really well on the day. I knelt out the threats and recovered from his early Valar quite well thanks to finding eccon.

Isian Hasmuja: Night's Watch Kraken

So.... I go in thinking... I know this deck... but there is still a chance it is a Vary's Yoren deck. I play it cautiously, don't play characters without protection. Wierdly the thing that saved this game? Unique chuds, while I used control to stop Qhorin to start with, I found Moon Boy, Shireen and Edric early. I then stopped playing non-unique chuds turning Qhorin off. I think ground out the game

Cut Florian Hess: Lannister Rains

I felt so bad during this game, Florian was a nice champ, he had been King of Swiss, so when he Mulligan he got hit by the King of Swiss curse. End of turn one he had 6/7 cards in hand, none of them were characters... Sorry mate.

Final Dave Bamford: Tyrell Sun

So, the last time I played against Dave was at a aGoT 2.0 release event he agreed to run in Northampton, he dropped half way through the tournament (which I ended up winning, the last tournament I won LOL). After the tournament Dave challenged me using a super abusive Martel watch..? Nightswatch Sun deck..? He took me apart, it was brutal.

The last time I played against this deck was against JCWamma at the Reading Regional last year, it was a great game which I lost at time after not being able to recover from a Varys.

So this time I knew what to expect. I made a couple of silly early mistakes on the first turn (Dave cleared my board). I was able to play Trading to get out Stannis with a bodyguard and two chuds. I then just played super defensively assembling the dominance package. Dave kept stripping my hand (I had no Red Keep) but I top decks like the lucky shit I am.

The key top deck was a dupe for Bob the turn before I thought he would Valar, having Stannis and Bob left after Valar was very nice.

Basically the deck won me the tournament.

It is a pretty simple deck, so I can't imagine there being any questions, just wanted to give a massive shout out to everyone I played against. Will definitely be retiring this deck for a while.
