So, I've had quite a lot of people PMing me for my decklist from Blackwater so I figured I'd publish it with a little write up. I don't usually do this sort of thing because my deckbuilding skills are lacklustre. Well, according to Wamma, my deckbuilding skills are solid but my core deck concepts are thoroughly flawed.

I already know that many of you will find the deckbuilding decisions questionable, so I'm going to talk a little about what I wanted to do and the style I had in mind/played with in mind:

1) This is not a derivative grindy-grindy attrition deck. The goal is usually to out construct your opponent.

2) I wanted to create something that scales in power level. The idea is the 'better' your opponent's deck is the better this deck is. Obviously this isn't 100% true but when there's things like Renly and Wyman to take it certainly feels like it is true. For the record I find that playing against minicurve decks is fine too, as the character base we have allows us to dictate the power totals and we can usually repopulate with ease.

3) I really really really enjoy trying to pursue my opponents win conditions and achieving them myself. For example, both this deck and its 1.0 predecessor have won games through rushing with my opponent's Vipers.

4) It might seem like I'm not running enough recruitment but to me it feels like the perfect amount, I've seen a lot of New Wall decks running loads of recruitment effects but it definitely feels redundant to me after a point. I really feel I have the balance right.

5) This is a 60 card deck plus a cheeky copy of Tycho and a Breaking Ties to go with him. This is in entirely because I think I'm hilarious and I can spend my weekend off work doing whatever I damn well please. If you want to try this deck out, you should probably cut them.

I don't see much merit in a full TR because the deck is so variance reliant it would simply read as 6 variance wins and 3 variance losses. It's just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

However I will say thank you for a lovely time to all of my fantastic opponents, to the TO team, the staff at Magic Madhouse and to everyone who shared the experience.

If you're wondering how consistently the build wins it went 13-0 in testing before Blackwater (including lots of Qohor match ups) went 6-3 at Blackwater and went 0-1 against Lanni Greensight with proxied Glass Candles at about 1am this morning. 19-4 ain't bad right?

I guess this is supposed to be broken vows

Nice deck, thanks for the explanations and congrats ;)

Yeah it totally is supposed to be Broken Vows, I'm going to blame this soul crushing bus journey I'm on. I appreciate the correction. Thanks :)

Also I really should help Wamma for all his help with the build.

How could anyone lose to this pile of cards?

I hope you crushed this piece of nonsense with those proxied Glass Candles.

He certainly did

Timberwolf 7

How did you manage to get gold to pay for Tricksy bird? I so want to try that.

Timberwolf 7

I misread the card. You have loads of ways to do it. I'm an idiot. This looks super fun to pilot!

Timberwolf, you just earned yourself an anecdote. The best way I paid for it was when my opponent opened Trading with the Pentoshi, allowing me to Tricksy Bird them into a turn 2 You Win or You Die. But yeah usually Trade Routes or Calling the Banners. I rarely have 2 Old Forest Hunters out.

Timberwolf 7

A fine anecdote at that.

Very nice! I think you can still pull off a bird with one veteran builder no... trigger in taxation and again in plots? At any rate I've been enjoying the new wall out of conclave myself! Birds and/or eastwatch into mutiny into wall is super fun. But I think your builder version looks more consistent. Thank you for sharing and nice job at the tourney!

Oh I know about I.D.10.T reports... but what's the HoD10T reference? A 1.0 thing I can't remember? Cheers! :)

@slanderandliesYou only actually need 1x hunter to trigger The Crow is a Tricksy Bird after the first turn. Just pitch a card in the taxation phase action window, then another in the plot phase action wind. No need to waste your Calling the Banners, or Trade Routes just to get Tricksy off :D

slanderandlies 122

This is very true, I'd rather not telegraph it in Taxation if I could help it though. Not so bad if you got Tricksy Bird openly through Exchange!

But, at the beginning, when you have not controled yet any character, what do you do against intrigue and especially military attacks?
