16 player Winter GNK held on the 12th December at Eclectic Games in Reading, UK.

5 Swiss rounds with Taking the Black NOT legal.

  • Round 1: Win vs Tyrell/Kraken
  • Round 2: Win vs Lannister/Rose
  • Round 3: Win vs Targaryen Fealty
  • Round 4: Win vs Martell/Rose (Sam Braatz style)
  • Round 5: Loss vs Lannister/Kraken

Deck performed solidly all day until round 5, where the only characters I drew all game were the three I set up (Tyrion, Merchant and Gardener). Things I Do for Love was played 5 times throughout the day and hit by a Hands Judgement on 4 occasions, so I may go down to one copy to hit 60 cards. Best game of the day was against the Martell/Rose deck where I had to play super defensively and dig for dupes and Treachery expecting the Varys. By the time Varys hit the board I still hadn’t drawn a Treachery, however I did have Tyrion, Tywin, Margaery and Randyll all with dupes.

Taking the Black only hit the store on the same day, so was not legal. I’ll be swapping out a Left and a Right for two Arbor Knights and a Burned Men and a Queens Assassin for two copies of The Hound.

Was a great start to the tournament season and it was awesome to meet lots of new players, most of whom were new to the game with the second edition.

This looks awfully familiar! Way to go, Ryan!

Thanks Aaron! Yeah I have been toying around with Lanni/Tyrell since release and will likely switch to the other way round when The Arbor is released. Congrats on the Red Saturday win, your location and attachment numbers in particular influenced how the deck ended up.

Still weird to see you playing something other than a Bara deck. Nice work, Ryan!

Cheers Chris :) yeah sadly Baratheon are not quite the same in v2, so I’m off to the greener pastures of The Reach.

Like yourself and PulseGazer i will also focus on play testing a Lannister/Rose deck. Really liking the synergy, theme and power level. How did you experience playing only two copies of Lannisport? Did you hit it reliably enough? How did Counting Coppers perform for you?

Should the deck be names ‘Red Roses’? ;D

Ah, wish there would be an edit function to correct typos ^_^

Two copies of Lannisport is the right number. I was happy when I drew it, but you never really want to see a duplicate of it, as it’s not a keystone location like The Wall, so three would be too many. I saw it in 3/5 of my games, but wasn’t lacking for draw in any of the matches (Pycelle, Summons and Coppers).

Counting Coppers was great all day. The low income is not really a problem when you have Tywin or Tyrion around. I’d generally use it when in a strong position to further my advantage, or when I was digging for duplicates on a pre-Varys turn (Counting Coppers for dupes -> Calling the Banners for Varys worked quite nicely).

You could always try out Cersei’s Wheelhouse if you want more draw, but so far I am not convinced its necessary.

Thanks for sharing your insights!

I agree on the Wheelhouse not being needed. Personally think it’s too situational in a deck that feels very tight on space already.

Also generally agree on your reasoning behind not playing a third copy of Lannisport, though currently testing 3x to provide enough draw to pull of Queen’s Assassin, which i feel does trigger very rarely…

Yeah as I said above, I’ve dropped the Assassin to a one-of now that The Hound is released. They have the same ambush cost, but as you said, the Assassin has an additional trigger condition that is not always met. One copy is nice to have, as you have a reasonable chance to trigger and its printed cost of 2g helps for setup.

I won another winter GNK with this deck this weekend (with Taking the Black cards legal). 16 players, went 4-0. The Hound was MVP all day. Not too impressed by the Arbor Knights, crazily Left and Right might be better…

@Ryan4815Was the the same exact decklist?

Ryan4815 1280

@YellowJacket For the Portsmouth tournament I swapped out the following: - -1 Left - -1 Right - -1 Queen Assassin - -1 Burned Men - +2 Hound - +2 Arbor Knight
