Just finished up at Dueller's Point Singapore's 3rd AGOT Store Championship. 21 players participation, 4 rounds of swiss, cut to top 8. It was an extremely fun experience and i'm glad i managed to attend this SC as i didn't make the cut to top 8 in the 1st SC, and failed to attend the 2nd.

I finished at 1st place with a 6-1 score using House Baratheon Banner of the Sun, a full control variant without relying on the table and chair dominance win condition.

I don't remember the exact details of all my games, but i roughly remember how most of them went down.

Game 1 - Targaryen banner Kraken (Shawn) - Win

Before i try recall how the game went, would like to just say that Shawn is a really cool player, and we've been playing against each other a lot recently during our weekly league nights and he brings a new deck every week which is awesome! Today it was Targ-Kraken that i believe is a kill deck. Unfortunately for him, i managed to get Stannis Baratheon and my icon control setup rather quickly this game (Nymeria Sand, Condemned), thus shutting down his stealth shenanigans and pretty much kneeling everything on the board with Stannis Baratheon, Filthy Accusations and Melisandre. Close the game at roughly the 5th plot.

Game 2 - Lannister banner Kraken (Abby) - Win

Abby faced the similar fate as Shawn, Stannis Baratheon has been the MVP for most of my games this tournament. There was a turn i contemplated playing The Red Keep or Obara Sand which I ended up picking obara, only to use seen in flames during the challenge phase to see a Newly-Made Lord in his hand which would've been a disaster if i played The Red Keep (i was going 1st). Eventually the control got too overwhelming and i sealed the game at plot 6 i believe.

Game 3 - Baratheon banner Rose (Vick) - Win

Fellow bara player! There are too few bara players in Singapore and it's refreshing to play against something that isn't lanni or targ. This game was a really close game for me. Vick was playing a bara-rose knights power rush deck and nearly stole the game from me before i could set up my board. At plot 3 he was sitting at 11 power vs my 0, triggering 2 Lady Sansa's Rose and numerous power/unopposed challenges. I did however managed to slow him down significantly with Stannis Baratheon and Robert Baratheon on the board with my full icon removal suite, followed by 2 successful Superior Claim to bring me back on the power track. The highlight of the match was when he played A Tourney for the King with most of his knights standing. He was 8 power from winning, and i was at 1. He declared a with Ser Hobber Redwyne with Mare in Heat attached alone, i defended with Obara Sand and Selyse Baratheon, he used Margaery Tyrell to boost the strength of Obara Sand and kicked her out the challenge with Mare in Heat, a flashy play that i did not expect. I'm now down to 2 from winning, and he at 6. He then declared a with 3 knights, using davos to stealth Robert Baratheon, however i managed to shut it down with In the Name of Your King!, catching him off guard which led to Robert Baratheon swinging for a to seal the game. A truly epic game!

Game 4 - Greyjoy Fealty (Kenny) - Lose

I made a brutal mistake that cost me this game. I managed to get my full lock down setup by plot 2, surviving his onslaught of 2 claim plots. Things were looking good and i was confident i had the game in the bag. However i did a fatal mistake of not blocking an while knowing that i was keeping In the Name of Your King! that turn. Kenny intrigued me with his measly 1 str Lordsport Shipwright and dropped my In the Name of Your King!, leading up to a double stealth with Asha Greyjoy and Theon Greyjoy on a double claim plot and then leading it with a Put to the Sword, killing Stannis Baratheon. The game went downhill from there and I was afraid it might cause me to tilt as that often happens.

Top 8 - Lannister banner Kraken (Derek)

The lord of light seemed to be in my favor this SC as i've been getting Stannis Baratheon out either in my setup or within my 1st 2 plots so far. Facing another Lanni-kraken, he suffered the same fate as before, a full shut down. He managed to get Tywin Lannister out at plot 3, but i attached Attainted on him and Tears of Lys the same round. Tywin died, Attainted returned to my hand, i then attached it to Ser Jaime Lannister next plot, did the same thing, and now father and son are in the dead pile. Following turn he played Tyrion Lannister, but with Attainted back in my hand, i re-attached it back to tyrion, used Nymeria Sand to take away his power, and the game went on from there until i slowly starved him out, bringing me into the top 4.

Top 4 - Stark Fealty (CK)

This guy..... We have our own group in Singapore called Valyrian Steel consisting of 9 players where we play weekly at leagues or simply meet up to train. And this guy, i have faced a million times, so much so we know each other's decks and plots. The game was going horribly wrong for me at the start, and i kinda lost all hope from there. He attached Milk of the Poppy on Stannis Baratheon after i used Confiscation for some attachment i cannot remember and it screwed up the board state for me. I had 3 characters facing down a horde of 5-7 Stark characters. The strategy of the game at that point was to just survive and drag as long as possible with what i had. Every card i drew, i dropped it down as fodder until a miracle would happen. And it did, i managed to survive until plot 7 when he revealed his last plot as Wildfire Assault, that plot turned the whole game around. I managed to get Robert Baratheon and started swinging away, miraculously winning me the game. To my own credit, i had pretty sick intrigue claim picks that game, throwing out many key cards from his hand, thus allowing me to survive that long.

Finals - Lannister Fealty (Glen)

Its the finals! And finally after so many games, this game Stannis Baratheon did not appear... at all, and neither did Melisandre. i survived mainly out of Nymeria Sand and Robert Baratheon, surviving [The First Snow of Winter] and just flooding back my board with chuds to soak as Robert Baratheon did all the work. 2 of my Seen In Flames proved crucial as i managed to remove a Put to the Sword on a very vulnerable turn and a Treachery, he had Ser Gregor Clegane which was tempting, however the Treachery proved to be more valuable. Throughout the game he did not have the economy to play Ser Gregor Clegane which ended up being 1 less threat for me to worry about. With Robert Baratheon being a beast along with Superior Claim i managed to seal the game with a 15-0 victory.

Overall, i had an awesome time! I came with no expectations of winning, all i really wanted was to try get to top 4 just to earn the beautiful looking playmat, i never expected myself to win the Store Championship! Would like to thank Dueller's Point for hosting the event and my family, friends and teammates for supporting/helping me out!

Great deck. I've been playing with a similar one. I think you're very wise to avoid the dominance package; it's very alluring, but muddles the deck.

I've found that the deck can often have economy problems, and I've had great success with Tourney Grounds to allow a surprise event. I also run Here to Serve (to get Cressen) in place of Confiscation, and find it vastly preferable.

A few questions I'd pose:

Vanguard Lancer over Bastard in Hiding, Royal Entourage, or House Dayne Knight. I've generally looked at Vanguard Lancer as a pretty bad card. Have you found that the stalling ability is worth the difference in power?

Do you expect to revise the deck to include anything from Wolves of the North or Calm Over Westeros?

A very well-deserved win!

@chriswhiteYea i made the decision to cut out the whole table chair dominance aspect of the deck and focused on pure control which has proved to be extremely effective!

My tech choice for Vanguard Lancer is for 2 reasons. 1st is to have some control on cards such as The Blackfish and the new Catelyn Stark as the lancer is the only way to remove power off characters. 2ndly, this deck can be rather weak to rush decks if i do not set up fast enough, the lancer helps slow them down as well. The card has raised in value in my opinion in this power rush, The Blackfish Catelyn Stark meta.

Hey @chriswhite. I've got to let you know that Travis not only piloted this deck to a great win at our Store Championships, but he did so while other players were using cards from Wolves of the North and Calm Over Westerns. Both legal for the tournament. The resiliency of this deck and the great skill of the pilot trumps the hoo-ha over new cards.

@iTrvis Do you feel that His Viper Eyes would fit well in this deck? If so, what would you take out to put in? Finally, how do you deal with any kind of Lannister rush? I've had a problem with Lannister going all out and getting Gregor or Tywin out turn 1 or 2 and just locking the board down by killing any and everyone I have.

@TinyKing I originally had His Viper Eyes in my deck, however I often find myself having it as a dead card in my hand. I seldom lose any power challenges and with the use of In the Name of Your King!, i seldom get to trigger His Viper Eyes by losing military challenges.

As for tywin and gregor, kneel and icon manipulation is key to keeping them down. This deck can pull off many successful intrigue challenges, allowing Tears of Lys to be my form of permanent control agaisnt gregor or tywin with his intrigue icon removed by Attainted or Nymeria Sand
