This deck is an evolution from a previous version that I used to win Kingdom Con (Field of 36). It was created in collaboration with a couple of excellent players, and is by far my favorite deck in the format. It requires patience, timing, and is reminiscent of a pre 2.0 play mentality. It was taken down by an expertly piloted Lannister Banner Kraken build not once, but twice. Both before the top 8 and again in the finals.

Congrats on the 2nd place. Freaking Lanni. I am officially calling this the best non-tywin deck in the meta right now.

congrats! glad to see the deck do so well after unfortunately doing poorly in sacramento (i mean that seriously). what did you change between this week and last? also did you like the token sunspear?

There were a couple of major changes since Sacramento. Heads on Spikes was removed for confiscation in the plot deck primarily due to the increased popularity of martell (I partially blame myself and the kingdom con top 8 stream for this), and realizing that with this new meta dynamic two rattleshirts in the draw deck just wasn't enough to deal with the number of abusive attachments anymore. The draw deck lost 1 Rattleshirt, 1 In Doran's Name, 1 Tickler, 2 Hand's Judgement, and 2 His Viper Eyes in exchange for 3 Milk, 1 Imprisoned, 2 Nightmares, and 1 more Ser Illyn Payne. The increased prevalence of Stark, Martell, and Mirri necessitated these changes as well. I needed non reaction based methods of control to get them through on key cards consistently.

The token Sunspear was great everytime I didn't see Lordsport Shipwright and Cersei's Wheelhouse, so my answer is yes I liked it 90% of the time.

Palace Spearman were in a very competitive slot between Knights of the Sun and Rattleshirt's Raiders. I found the attachment removal of Rattleshirt's Raiders and the renown/ability to attach widow's wail (see no attachments except weapon) of the Knights of the Sun more useful than the occasional intrigue icon. Though I did go back and forth on that decision a few times.

In hindsight was it the correct decision based on the games played on Saturday?

im_pressed 53

In hindsight, yeah I would still rather have the Knights of the Sun over Palace Spearman. The extra closing power and tempo provided by the bit of renown was critical to staying ahead on power in the mid-late game. The token sunspear I would have cut based on match ups last weekend. It was dead against anything with a greyjoy banner or main house, and I would have preferred to see another character in that spot.

The above answer is based solely on the field last weekend and the specific match ups I had.

Hey mate, why did you take 2 nightmares instead of treacheries?

im_pressed 53

@VancluysenflorI chose nightmares because it is proactive rather than reactive, and it doesn't check for a unique lannister character to be in play.
