Greyjoy I used to win the PH 2016 regionals.

Foregoing the "Go First" mentality and the glass cannon archetype.

Built the deck to go second until you want to go for the kill, can burst when there is an opening yet can also play the attrition game.

The playstyle is pretty flexible, depending on the board state you can rush or play defensive effectively.

Milk is my answer to the Bara matchup, Mirri, Robb Stark, Tyene, Nymeria. Pretty specific, but as we all know Milk is pretty effective for other characters too.

I was hoping to see this deck. Many thanks for sharing. Any report coming? I'm interested to hear if you'd make any changes and if there are particular matches that trouble you. Congrats!!

solid deck

Well done! Was the new chapter pack legal for the event? If not, would you make any changes, like adding Pyke?

kennish 206

@YEEZUS It was legal, but we decided Pyke was a win-more card. Almost always, you will be using Pyke on Balon Greyjoy, but Great Kraken already accomplishes that, so we would rather just have an additional copy of it.

Super good deck. Go-second Greyjoy is definitely the real deal. This deck beats Lannister most of the time.

@MeatLoafX He published a tourney report in our local Facebook Group. Check it out! A Game of Thrones LCG Philippines. :)

With about half your characters who can be hit by first snow, can you elaborate on your decision to include it? Clearly it worked and I'd like to know more

EliPyke 141

First snow was never a problem for me, the number of characters that cost 4 and above is just enough to always have a disposable 4 cost character. Decks with first snow are predictable, mostly Lanni and Martell right now, so you can play around it. Hold on to your saves for the first snow turn, don't use your seastone chair during Martell's first snow turn if they are keeping 2 gold.

First snow is a substitute for a second Wildfire, its a winter plot, that will help you vs the stark matchup, that pretty much acts like a wildfire for you but lets you keep more than 3 characters if your board has more than 3 4 cost and above characters.

@MeatLoafX Not to mention FSoW also gives you free wins versus decks like NW, Bara, and Targ, who have a hard time recovering post-FSoW.

I'm interested in the use of The Kraken's Grasp in this go second deck - is this used when you go first in the final turn? Was is a dead card in hand other times? What was the rationale for the inclusion of this card?

Secondly, with the inclusion of a couple of Winter plots, were you not tempted to play a copy of Fishwhiskers?

Congratulations on your placing!

Congratulations!

You also have 2 copies of Aeron Damphair. Did his ability ever trigger? Wouldn't 2 more Drowned Men be more useful? (bicon, FSoW, ships).

EliPyke 141

@hagarrr Kraken's Grasp was put in to take advantage of the fact that people never expect it anymore. It's used to surprise trigger the Seastone Chair. VS the Starks, they will never trigger Winterfell on an attacking Salty Navigator since they can block it so easily, and they don't see a raiding longship anyway, that's a perfect opening to use the Kraken's Grasp and trigger the Seastone Chair when you wouldn't be able to normally.

It's also automatic 2 power during Rise of the Kraken's turn.

EliPyke 141

@RoflRoy Aeron Damphair was put in because the meta is so full of kill effects, he's there so that even when Balon, Asha, Theon dies, I have a chance to get them back.

Even when he's not getting triggered he warps your opponents challenges because they don't want you winning dominance; that in itself makes him a bit more useful than Drowned Men for me since I don't have as much warships as the normal Greyjoy deck does.

EliPyke 141

@hagarrr Fishwhiskers was almost in the deck. He didn't make the cut however since FSOW is not a plot meant to take advantage of him but is supposed to be used whenever possible as early as possible, so that doesnt count for me. Same for Snowed Under which is one of my 2 finishers, along with Salty Navigator or a Kingsroad Euron stole I'm 100% sure to win initiative when I really want to, not even Sneak Attack can beat my initiative.

Believe me, Snowed Under will win you a lot, I mean a lot, of close games.

Congrats to DrownedGod of TNC! definitely will try this one out! I love the deck that is away from the mentality of the meta.. The Krakens Grasp is pain in the ath.

Isian.H 706

how many players?

EliPyke 141

@Isian.H31 players or 30. around that number.

Congrats ! Did you often play Syrio Forel ? I find it too expensive for Greyjoy
