After getting my badge Wednesday, I set to getting some games in to figure out a deck. I hadn't really played since Origins aside from 3 games at a "local" in Cleveland with a Stark deck. I had been knocked out of Origins top 8 by walking into Nate's Ice on the defense, twice (it was a long exhausting weekend hobbling around on a broken foot) So I figured that I had better learn how white cards worked.

I apparently needed to read a few more Stark cards, so I was testing a Stark fealty and a Martell Lion deck until 2am with Toggle, YEEZUS, and America. I wasn't really happy with any of my decks (even tried a Targ Xing which won its game, but was expressly told not to play)

So, unhappy with my main two decks, I decide to just play my Origins deck with a few changes. -1 Close Call, Jamie, PttS, Burned Man, Sansa, Nightmares (I think) +1 Long winter, Ilyn, Tears, Littlefinger, Seal, Trial by Combat To arrive at the deck above.

It only lost one game at Gen Con. Round 3 I play a first turn Ward on my opponents Hound and milk his Tyenne and Tyrion. Next turn he flips Weapons at the door insisting they all go to discard due to terminal. I didn't think so so raised my hand for a judge. One never came and he has the rule book open to terminal and I skim over it setting the words ... leaves play for any reason... discard... I say, damn that's good and continue the game and lose as Tyenne will murder most of the things I was drawing. If I am to be honest with myself though, I want in great shape at that point anyways. It takes me telling the story a bit before I'm corrected, but an still able to win the rest of my games making day two.

They tell us to show up at 1! Well there's a problem, the Star Wars tourney starts at 2. I had a round 1 bye so I was hopeful that the Thrones day 2 would be done in time (Origins day 2 started at 9:30) My genius self decides to go sign up for an 8AM D&D game because you don't waste time at Gen Con.

After hunting a band of witches I manage to go 3-0 day two. Round one was only due to Gregor lotto ripping a Ned (he had one in hand too) to kill a Jamie on a very even board state. My only relevant Gregor pull of the tourney. The next two games vs Bretton and Jon Palmer were leveraged early and I was able to close out before they got rebuilt.

So there I was, 4th seed going into the cut but Star Wars was about to start rd 2 so I have a choice to make. I ask 9th if they would like to play. I decide to drop from the cut and sit down just in time for Rd 2 Star Wars, letting Darknoj in as the 8th. Darknoj, the stand up guy that he is, brings me the mat afterwards.

Props -Seal was well worth the slot. Twice finding Ned to close out early and a twice on Tywin. -Trial by Combat won me a game vs Lanni GJ that I would have lost otherwise. That and a Tears cleared 5 really relevant units on a Long Winter turn. -Adding the extra Tears helped a lot with Gregor and Stannis etc. kills throughout the tourney.

It was great to see all the familiar and new faces. All my opponents were as pleasant as can be.

Only 1 Bran, but 2 Hands Judgement?

I find he dies too easily. Lots of Ilyn & Grey Wind around.

Congrats on your result and thanks for sharing your list.

Congrats on the great result! I do have a question: didn't you suffer from terrible setups if you don't start with Tywin on the board?

Not really, I think I only started him once the whole tourney. My only bad setup was Cersei Kingsroad vs Bara and I managed win that one. Never really netdecked, practiced a proper curve, or test shuffled. The game can be effectively over in the first few turns, so I load my decks up with cards to help make that happen and the deck kinda builds itself.
