Wordless, the knight fell to his knees. The men of her khas came up behind him. Jhogo was the first to lay his arakh at her feet. "Blood of my blood," he murmured, pushing his face to the smoking earth. "Blood of my blood," she heard Aggo echo. "Blood of my blood," Rakharo shouted.
And after them came her handmaids, and then the others, all the Dothraki, men and women and children, and Dany had only to look at their eyes to know that they were hers now, today and tomorrow and forever...
This is the deck I brought to and used to win a local tournament in the "Road to Storm's End" series held in Portland, Oregon. Kings of Summer, with its extra gold and extra reserve, struck me as having good synergies with an event-heavy Targaryen build, and I was expecting a fair amount of Martell and their 4-Str characters, so I put this thing together and saw a lot of success.
The agenda and plots provide a lot of gold. I found myself easily able to keep 1-2 gold after marshaling, meaning that I could always threaten a Dracarys!, Put to the Sword, or The Hand's Judgment. Magister Illyrio also worked very well with the extra gold I had. Fire and Blood was my response to the threat of Wildfire Assault and Ser Ilyn Payne. It also let me go all-in with three copies of all three hatchlings, since I had little fear of the downside of a copy in the dead pile.
The three Bloodriders were excellent all day. Jhogo's stealth was key to breaking through defenses, Rakharo's power let me close out games, and Aggo's intrigue icon let me make more intrigue challenges than normal, while his stand effect allowed Jhogo to stealth twice or Rakharo to intimidate twice. Intimidate combined with Stealth is very strong.
I chose to forego Milk of the Poppy in favor of two copies of Nightmares, in order to make my opponent's attachment control useless and to keep with the flexibility of gold in the challenge phase.
After yesterday, the one change I would try to make is to fit in a second Magister Illyrio. This deck can generate enough gold to make his ability useful in every challenge phase.
So, if you've been looking for something out of Targaryen that doesn't have to resort to Lhazareen blood magic, try out the Bloodriders!

With that many events I tend to desire a Tourney Grounds or two to go along with the cost, but perhaps you have found that the extra gold as you pointed out was enough just from the agenda. Had you considered that when constructing? |
Cool man I've been playing with Targ summer myself and it's awesome. I'd scrap a jhogo if u want another illyrio tbh. But honestly how did you survive the Lannister onlslaught without milk? Can't rely on 2 nightmares for blanking |

In my current summer build I run 2x Beggar King. I think it will slot right in here as well with the 2x Summer Harvest. I think that with the agenda you target only few Summer plots for the Income and the rest of the time you get Value out of all the events that you can hold with the high Reserve. Beggar King also allows you to run Counting Coppers and Reinforcements. |
Thanks for sharing the list. No Mirri is interesting. |
As for Beggar King, I thought about it while building this, and I realized that it would be better with a different plot lineup, likely in a Fealty build.

losing friends is part of the game |
This deck has been really good for me. Shadowblack Lane wasn't to great, i feel that revealing the card you draw makes it harder to surprise the opponent. I do see mirri is not required, but this deck generates toon of money, others expensive cards could be included. I found very nice to have a second Magister Illyrio. Do you find it hard to deal with Winterfell, The wall and some other locations? i was thinking maybe including a pyromancers. That's the only thing bugging me about the deck. |
This deck is cash money. Literally. I had a small store tournament yesterday and decided to take something completely new figuring I’d rather go 0-3 and have fun than 3-0 and play Lannister. Net decked this the night before with a few small changes and won it. (My first championship even if it was small. Got the Dany cards and Targ tokens which was fitting.) Here are the changes I made: +1 Illyrio, -1 Jhogo. I loved having Illyrio and would do this again, but I was at times feeling the pinch from not having enough Bloodriders in the deck. It was nothing to trigger Illyrio and if there were a card in the deck that could trigger in multiple phases… Still, I think this was a net positive. The forthcoming devoted Bloodrider might help this if I can find room. +1 Tourney Grounds, -1 Shadowblack Lane. This was a mistake. I had Tourney Grounds out twice early and still never needed it. One time I considered triggering it going into challenges, but then thought “why bother”? I understand the “surprise factor” discussed above, but this deck has the ability to bury your opponent in card advantage (Doreah + Dany ftw!) and so I think Shadowblack is the right call. +2 Milk, -2 Nightmares. This was mostly because I know I’m not so good at choosing the best time to play Nightmares and I like the lasting effect of Milk. On the whole I think it was the right choice for me that day. The crowning achievement (ahem) was making a tripled Tyrion king via molten gold. Felt so good. Another time I played Summer Harvest into my opponents Trading. I had to use dice to keep track of the gold! Which brings me to one more change I would like to try: -1 Summer Harvest, +1 A Song of Summer. The +1 str bonus was consistently great and often forgotten by my opponents leading to challenge and dominance wins. Especially screws them up when Dany is out. One other thing is Funeral Pyre. I don’t want to make too many kneejerk reactions to three games, but if you are looking for events to swap out you might start here. Certainly changing one for the coming Blood of my Blood is something I will try. Great job Matt! |
Hey Matt, think we could have a small chat one of these days? |
I am unsure of how this deck will evolve with Devoted Bloodrider and Blood of My Blood coming out. With the Lannister box coming as well this month, I have intentionally waited to consider this topic, because we are going to get so many new cards in a short time.

Once again a great deck made by a great person ;)
