Ran a Lannister Crossing Clansmen deck tonight at a small local tournament. Not only did I come out with a winning record, something fairly rare for me, but I won the whole thing.

Here is that deck, very slightly modified from what I ran.

General thoughts:

  • Moon Brothers are really good. Almost disgustingly good.
  • This deck doesn't need all that much money since you can just dump in dudes for free or cheap all the time.
  • Don't be afraid to sacrifice characters for fleeting tactical advantage.
  • First Snow is this deck's best friend. It returns all your ambusher dudes to hand.
  • This deck can come from behind like few others. I dumped in a surprise Gregor with Harrenhal, triggered PTTS off his military challenge, claimed another, then got a kill off his Pillage, nearly emptying their board.
  • Joffrey can amass a surprising amount of power if you're using Harrenhal.

General Strategy:

  • Ideally you get a good icon spread at setup, but mulligan in the rare case you don't see at least one thing that lets you dump in characters for free. You want a solid core of characters on the board that you can then augment from your hand on the fly.
  • Don't be afraid to First Snow if you'll get even the slightest board advantage out of it. I used it on turn one, in two different games.
  • Tyrion is the only character you really care about. Try to keep him alive and un-milked. Anyone that is a two-of is nice to have, but not required.
  • Most unique characters are singletons. For them, a kill is the same as a discard. You don't risk dead draws if someone dies.
  • Despite being a Crossing deck, rush isn't always the right answer. Don't be afraid to play defensively and skip a challenge to protect your core board. You'll get 'em next plot.
  • Use Building Orders to react to your hand. If you get lots of clansmen, go fishing for Mountains of the Moon. If you have lots of expensive guys, you want Harrenhal.
  • Your only real card draw comes from Tyrion, so try to keep him around, and protect against intrigue challenges.

Things I may change:

  • Famine is a really good plot in this deck. Use it after First Snow to really put the pressure on. Also gives you a plot where Winterfell doesn't block you. It was originally in the deck in place of Heads on Spikes. I moved to HoS simply so I could have a high-initiative plot. I may move back; need more playtesting.
  • Lannisport is there for the card draw only, BUT I don't have room to make sure I see it. I may drop the card entirely. It's the only card in the entire deck I feel could be removed. Probably should be.
  • Stark is probably the best house equipped to deal with this deck, with Winterfell and Last Hearth Scouts. Fortified Position may be worth consideration, just to deal with them.

Played in another tournament today. Went 2-1, and I could have won the game I lost. I completely flubbed my various actions/reactions on the crucial turn. My opponent took great advantage of my mistakes for the win, but man, I could have had it!

New thoughts:

  • I'm definitely going to remove Lannisport. I had it in hand in two of the three games today, but never played it.
  • It takes more work than I expected to get Chella going. I thought it was a fluke in the first tournament, but it was true again tonight. I only had one game, out of both tournaments combined, in which she amassed enough ears to get her bonuses.
  • I want to make room for Trial by Combat, but I have no clue what I'd take out to make that room.
  • Heads on Spikes did some work today. As much as I liked Famine, I think HoS is here to stay. I just wish I had room for a two-claim plot to follow after First Snow.

Tried this out against Stark Fealty and Targ Crossing and won both. Great deck!

Glad to hear it!

Stark Fealty is one of the deck's worst matchups, so glad to hear it went well. Winterfell, Last Hearth Scounts, and the rare Frozen Solid all put some hurting on your tech.

I'm usually fine with Targ decks. They don't scare me much.
