Nothing really special about this deck - play decent-to-great characters, turn them sideways as necessary, repeat until 15 power acquired. I'm very sensitive to the need for unique Lannisters for Treachery, so that's what Alayaya and Bronn are for.

I flew in to visit my family in NYC for the Thanksgiving holiday so I figured I could play some Thrones too. I ground out a bunch of games with my brother and some of the Boston guys who happened to be at the store near my brother's place (Highlander Games in Boonton, NJ), running the Baratheon Sun deck that did well at Staleck, which I heard is a big tournament with decent players. I didn't really understand it, but became very familiar with the decklist.

Saturday Results R1 - Baratheon Sun (Sandy B) Sandy sits down and tells me he cribbed this deck off the internet the night before and didn't really play this deck. I nod sagely. I forget what I setup, but my hand had 3 Milk of the Poppy and at least 1 Nightmares, so I'm pretty thrilled. His first plot is Trading with the Pentoshi, mine is Summer Harvest. You would think giving Lannister a huge gold advantage on T1 would be a deathknell, but I am a bad player and he manages to keep it close but I do eventually get the win.

R2 - Stark Fealty (Darknoj) They call this guy The Mountain and he does kinda look like him. I don't recall too many details about this game, but I do remember there being a key misplay on his part that caused me to retake control of the game.

R3 - Lannister Rains (Dave Stromes) I set up Kevan Lannister, a reducer and a Lannisport Treasury. He sets up a Harrenhall, a Kingsroad, Mountains of the Moon and a Burned Men. He flips Famine T1 to my A Noble Cause. It dawns on me that Ambush costs aren't affected by Famine and I have to pay 4 of my available gold to buy Cersei. This game gets away from me very quickly and I scoop on T3 to eat lunch.

Lunch break - Korean take-away. The lunch break is only 15 minutes because the store has us on a very tight, very strict schedule. Thank goodness I scooped my Round 3 to start lunch early.

R4 - Lannister Rains (Roy Rogers) I set up Cersei, Roseroad (or Western Fiefdom) and a reducer. He sets up Littlefinger, Ser Lancel and a Kingsroad. I flip A Noble Cause and he flips Summer Harvest and makes me go first. I bring out Tyrion and leave some gold for Lannister Brand Shennanigans(TM). He plays a Western Fiefdom and brings out The Mountain (the card, not Darknoj!). I hit Lancel with Nightmares shrinking him back to normal size and swing in to him with an Intrigue challenge, stealthing past his Littlefinger. He responds by summoning the Hound from Harrenhall. I win the challenge unopposed, triggering Rains, and hitting the Hound with Filthy Accusations and the Mountain with Tears of Lys. With him having no gold, I was willing to accept 1 claim and a spin on the Mountain Roulette Wheel. We play a few more rounds, but he conceeds when I am up 10-0.

R5 - Stark Fealty (Sean Emberley) Stark is incredibly resilient and Sean finds both Core Catelyn and Winterfell relatively early. Eventually he gets the Wolves Eddard, Core Robb and The Blackfish swinging at me every turn for power.

R6 - Lannister Rains (Junior Tidal) He starts a LOT of cheap guys and keeps playing cheap guys for 2 rounds. I play First Snow on T3 while he plays Supporting the Faith. Not only does he have to pick up his whole board, he has to dump most of it at the end of the turn. It was a savage beating.

Cut to T8 and somehow I'm 7th place.

T8 - Tyrell Kraken (Jim Osan) Osan is a friend from L5R days, even though he has terrible taste in clans. We both build big boards and the power is pretty close for a while, though I start to fall behind. I eventually Rain down Wildfire on the field leaving Renly, Asha and Theon and me with the Hound, Cersei and someone else. He starts duping up his board and dropping Iron Mines which sounds to me Valar is about to hit and I have no dupes.
