This deck was created to beat the Valar Morghulis decks. It ended up being great against "The Rains of Castamere" and other decks, that currently are dominating the 'meta'.
The base of the deck is u let your opponent go first. Then oppose the challenges so that The Wall tiggers and Chamber of the Painted Table. The reason why I play Bara/nw and not NW/stag, is in the loyal cards that they have. The only loyal cards I ended up playing were Old Forest Hunter and Messenger Raven. SInce I have a long history playing , I ended up opting more towards The Red Keep rather then Messenger Raven and Old Forest Hunter with better gold plots. Also Counting Coppers is no longer required, so we can play better gold efficient plots.
The Haunted Forest is an MVP in this deck. Of course you win with The Wall & Chamber of the Painted Table but this card makes it all better! Plus this makes Shadow Tower Mason a must since they're both non-unique.
Your setups are pretty good since the highest cost is 5 (expect for the one Stannis Baratheon). The reason behind Dragonstone Faithful and no Dragonstone Port is because most cards we play are characters and Chamber of the Painted Table&The Red Keep are not that expensive, plus it's good for claims. On the other side, Ocean Road helps you play 31/61 cards in your deck. Your plots are good and have a high gold income. The turn when you say: 'Now I have to play all of these cards', is when you open Trading with the Pentoshi.
I played a lot with Valar Morghulis at first. The plot ended up killing me a few times more then I would have liked. So I replaced it with Wildfire Assault and it did the same and better job as Valar Morghulis. On a side note I could not choose between Winter Festival, Confiscation or Here to Serve. I'm still a bit unsure of this one.

Why exactly is "Isle of Ravens" important? |

Wilding bandit...? I don't understand this choice |

Are you sure that you shouldn't flip your banner and house? The only loyal cards are 1 Stannis (which seems fairly extraneous) and 2 Red Keep (which could easily be replaced with Messenger Ravens. |
Because this would give you access to Watcher On The Walls, and a bunch of other powerful defensive cards. |

This is a cool deck I have been using something very similar lately and got some good ideas off of this. The biggest difference is our locations. I run 3 The Red Keep and only one The Iron Throne, Isle of Ravens, and Chamber of the Painted Table so I can run 3 Support of the People. I have found, as a long time player as well, that it is easy to trigger with The Red Keep out. I can actually hit it defensively more often the offensively because the combo of The Haunted Forest and The Red Keep. I also choose Winter Festival over Here to Serve. I must thank you for discussing your reasoning for taking Wildfire Assault over Valar Morghulis I look forward to trying that out. I think with Valar Morghulis being so new I can tend to fall into the trap thinking I should definitely include it. |
The Red Keep and The Haunted Forest still require a character to oppose, I hope you know that. The reason I run more copy of my locations and not Support of the People, is because there's a lot of loction hate at the last tournament and my store. There for I have to put more then one of each good location in my deck and not having the room for it. My list has changed since I posted it, so here's the update. -1Wildling Bandit, 2Isle of Ravens, 1The Iron Throne & 1Close Call |
Yeah I know you need a character winning just becomes far easier with those locations on the board. That makes sense though I participate in a relatively small group our meta doesn't always match what is happening everywhere else. There is very little location hate in my group I'll have to think about that as we try and participate elsewhere as well. |
I feel like Support of the People would be really good here considering you have 22 locations. You may want to consider In the Name of Your King!. It's one of Baratheon's strongest defensive cards.
