Tulsa, OK: Covenant Store Championship

Went undefeated thru the day with this. Natural progression of what to do with large Stark characters if your gameplan is still to jam 3X of each of them in a deck. Lord of the Crossing agenda provides us the 2-3 extra power per game that allows us to be in striking distance of winning by turn 3, forcing our opponents to Valar or otherwise reset earlier than their game plan would like. Generally to assist with Valar resiliency we aggressively mulligan for hands with dupes in them, as opposed to economy. (This is usually most important against Lanni Rains matchups). LoTC also allows us to go first more than we would normally desire if we were normal Stark Fealty.

My typical plot progression was opening with Time of Plenty, into Winter Festival, then usually Wardens of the North if i felt the game could be won that turn. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. Couple of things i wanted to point out:

3X Jory Cassel - Right Now, as in at this very moment, he's fucking amazing. Outside of a few handful of scenarios, he never will hit your dead pile, so his extra copies never become dead cards. His saves on Valar turns are very impactful, and when a Winter plot is revealed our opponent has to very carefully consider if they want to cause Mil claim or act to kill a character and give us a free power. Lets not forget about his ability to eat a 2 claim by himself.

The rest of the Tully power gain package in general is left out here. Ive enjoyed playing Riverrun Minstrels in the past, but they just dont fit very well here as they're awkwardly costed. Also, Riverrun itself is incredibly inconsistent, so we just opted to avoid it all together.

Ser Edmure Tully - Normally, i wouldnt be running this guy. He doesnt actually gain us power without help from our opponent, so his contribution to our gameplan in a vacuum is minimal. However, we need some kind of answer for the decks that are actually trying to go even faster than us. Without running resets of our own, we'll actually have some trouble ensuring the deck thats more all in that it should be doesnt get there a half turn before us. Edmure helps in not only those situations, but also against the new wave of Tyrell thats popping up due to the retarded amount of renown thats now possible with that faction.

The Hands Judgement: Some may think this is a little much with Bran also being in the deck, but at the moment it isnt overkill. Of the events we want to stop are Dracarys!, Risen from the Sea, Treachery, Nightmares, and Tears of Lys, all of which you can expect to see multiples of over the course of a large tournament. Everytime i drew HJ during the SC it was impactful and i was happy to see it.

Rest of it is pretty self explanatory, thanks all

Being a long time Stark player, I love your deck and what it is trying to do. Question, how do you deal with the 3 Craven and 3 Milk of the Poppy once you've burned your confiscation and your wardens? Against Wall decks how do you manage?

SirLargeness 470

@Descent, thats kinda the beauty of The Lord of the Crossing. Lets say the gae goes longer than we want against NW and now hes got a bunch of negative attachments on our guys. Manufacturing your third challenge as POW and winning it will help you net more power per turn that your opponents Wall can. Depending on your local meta and how much of an issue you have with the neg attachments, you can change either the Nightmares or the Hands Judegment to an Arya's Gift. the 4 events i chose i felt gave me the most consistency across all matchups, but you can test Gift out here if you like. Without Ice the deck loses some of that extra play that Gift previously gave, so it my be more awkward that you like.

Descent 1

Also with a single copy of Jon Snow (WotN) how do you deal with the Bara Kneel lockdown?

SirLargeness 470

@Descenti just dont have that many issues with that deck to be perfectly honest. really, we end up just out producing characters than they can really Kneel per turn and keep us from gaining some kind of power thru challenges. Its also an important note that its even though we're not 3x John snow to combo with our Rob, our opponent has to skip their Mil chals each turn and if a Bran is out they have to not play a single event. Thats alot of restrictions to deal with while still having ot defend challenges from everyone not names Eddard Stark. (Jeyne Westerling is great also) Eventually, those decks just end up running out of steam, or they dont get the nuts early and they lose by turn 3.

Very nice deck, congratulations and thanks for sharing! How did Roose Bolton turn out for you? Did you get to use his ability, or was he there more because of his pair of icons? Also, have you tried Lady in the deck? With 3 copies of Sansa Stark (WotN) and 2 of Septa Mordane it seems like it would fit your plan of making 3 challenges every turn.

Isian.H 706

Have you tried King Robb's Host in this deck? The rush they bring to the table is actually ridiculous.

SirLargeness 470

@Manuel Cabezalí, my primary concern was minimizing the non character slots to the bare essentials. However, Lady has a positive effect with the deck and helps advance its gameplan, so its probably correct to add one.

@Isian.H, Love the card, just too expensive here, i'd rarely be able to play them.

SirLargeness 470

@Manuel CabezalíRoose Bolton is really there more for the icons than the ability. I actually didnt draw him during the tournament, but over the course of the 2 weeks of testing the deck i think i may have activated his ability a grand total of 2-3 times. Mostly, he just gives your opponent a threat of activation panic that they feel they have to start heavily playing around.
