For this SC, Istaril did his usual thing of adding lots of cool prizes and interesting ways to get them. The one that caught my attention was that the highest ranked player of each faction after swiss would get to pick a special house card that he got from Kike Vazquez from the Zaragoza tournament. A lot of them caught my eye and made picking a faction a hard choice. In the end I decided to stick with this deck which has been doing good lately, but I expected a lot of competition because Lannister players are a common thing it seems! As it turns out, I faced every other Lannister players out there!

This deck was strongly inspired from the Queen Cersei Hyper rush deck list from ringoasuka. Having to manage multiple deck with one set of cards mean that sometime I can't have access to certain things like Nightmares. Luckily, Lannisters have the next best thing, Treachery! I also wanted to include The Things I Do For Love because I just love this card and also had no other faction card kneel effect. Shae works really well here both on offense and defense. I was tempted to try Tarred Heads but decided to go with a Relentless Assault instead.

The deck is nothing fancy as far as piloting goes. Get icons out, do challenges, get the crossing power and pull some lucky Heads on Spikes. The plot deck is standard as far as economy goes, and is very aggressive with the remaining plots. If you can get Cersei Lannister (LoCR) and/or Ser Jaime Lannister (Core) out early you're up for a great game! You should be able to destroy your opponent's hand fast enough that he'll think twice about doing Valar Morghulis. You can win by turn 3 with one or two Heads on Spikes that hit.

Report

Game 1 vs Alex C. (Lanni-Wolf) (Win)

My first Lannister of the day. We both had Tyrion Lannister (Core) and we're drowning in challenge phase money. He had a worst setup than I did with Tyrion and Arya Stark (Core) vs my Tyrion and Shae iirc. He warded Shae and got Bran Stark out. He let the Tears of Lys go on the unduped Arya but cancelled my Things I do for Love on Shae to bring her back. At the beginning of the third turn we both only had a duped Tyrion on the board. I got my other copy of Shae out to help with making multiple challenges. I was able to recover faster and push the advantage for the win.

Game 2 vs Francis (Lanni-Fealty) (Win)

For the second serving of Lannister, I got to taste the delicacies of a clansman deck. This was my first time faceing a clansman deck so I was not sure what to expect. He got a lot of kills going on with Timett Son of Timett which was often brought in with Harrenhal (FFH). I had Queen Cersei out doing work and trying to survive with one more character to avoid a Marched to the Wall (which he didn't run after all). On the last turn I was able to milk his Timmet (now with 5 clansman on board) and Treachery Chella Daughter of Cheyk's ear gathering to prevent an intimidate, allowing me to push challenges for the win. Great game, very tense!

Game 3 vs Phillipe (Greyjoy Winter) (Win)

I don't remember the exact setup, but I had Jaime and Cersei out quick. On turn 1 I was able to push 2 MIL challenge with Jaime with a Relentless Assault which caught him by surprise. On turn 2 I saved 6 gold to bounce Victarion Greyjoy back to hand with Things I do for Love, only to kill him with a Heads on Spike at the beginning of turn 3 for my last 2 power. Games with Phil are rarely longer than plot 4, and this one was no exception!

Game 4 vs Guillaume (Lanni-Stag) (Win)

After a small interlude, more Lannisters! I'm was nervous going against Guillaume because he's a good player, and also because he was the other top Lannister with me competing for the special house card. He had a weird setup (3x Burned Men, Western Fiefdom, Chamber of the Painted Table) and I think I had Jaime + Lannisport Guard. He let me go first which allowed me to have gold during his marshaling to use Treachery against his The Kingsroad, preventing him from playing his own Queen Cersei. He had to make do with a Lannisport Guard instead. I had my Brothel Madame out and he never paid her, so all his Burned Men we're only there to defend and get claimed. I got Cersei out the following turn and was able to win dominance while he had A Feast for Crows out. At that point there was not much he could to.

Game 5 vs Istaril (Lanni-Rose) (Win)

And for dessert, one last Lannister! Alex was playing the Russian Roulette style deck with I Never Bet Against My Family and Hear Me Roar!, Pillage Tywin Lannister (LoCR) etc. He had Tywin and Ser Lancel Lannister on setup but during the first turn he marshaled Cersei Lannister (Core) and immediately noticed his mistake. It took me a while to figure out that Lancel was now at 0 STR. He pillaged a lot of my economy locations but I already had Tywin on the board so my monetary needs we're already covered. He got my own Ser Gregor Clegane with his Heads on Spike and got to re-trigger it with Tyrion's Chain but only hitting more unneeded locations (Small Council Chamber iirc). I crept up in power fast as the deck usually does and defeated my last Lannister for the day! The "Queen Cersei with her lion" house was mine!

Top 4 vs Phillipe (Greyjoy Winter) (Loss)

Rematch! He pretty much called that the game would be decided on the first turn. It was actually decided on setup! He got a duped Balon Greyjoy (Core), a The Seastone Chair, a reducer location and a reducer chud. I had Shae and Syrio Forel... He got Fishwhiskers out and since it was Winter... My only hope was to find a Milk of the Poppy but I didn't draw any so I lost quite fast against him. Disappointing Top 4 but i'm still glad I got this far :)

Conclusion

My best performance so far! I got close to top 4 a couple of times in the past (stupid IDs...) but now I got in, and won my first play mat with the iron price. I'll probably leave this deck behind for a while because there are other things I want to try out, but I might come back to it for its efficiency has been proven! This was a great tournament, getting 3rd place out of 19 players feels really good! :D
