This is the deck I took to a store championship in Leiden today. I made a couple of mistakes that I really got punished for by the other player. The deck itself is quite straightforward. A lot of burn effects on one side and some dothraki synergy on the other side, for when you don't see Dany and/or the dragons.

I eventually finished 9th out of 11, but I won a game which was what I set out to do for my first tournament. Here is a small report:

Game 1 - Loss vs. Tyrell/Banner of the Stag

Up until plot 5 we were quite even. I managed to put the Crown of Gold on Mel and had a nice board presence, just no dupes on characters. The one big mistake I made on turn 1 or 2 where a duped Daenerys Targaryen got knelt because of Melisandre and I played Waking the Dragon to stand her and discarding a dupe to prevent her going back to hand. On turn 4 I expected Valar Morghulis so I played close call, with no characters to put in the discard pile. On turn 5 he played Valar against my famine and wiped out 7 characters. My opponent then quickly took the game, considering he had The Arbor out, so he could put a lot of new characters out on the board.

Game 2 - Loss vs. Tyrell/Wolf

This was a quick affair. I had four cards on setup, Doreah, Viserys, and a dragon. My opponent had only The Arbor and Harrenhal (FFH) out. On marshaling I nightmare his Harrenhal and put Drogo out. He then chooses not to marshal any characters and let me get 4 uo power. On turn 2 he plays Valar and wipes my board. I concede on turn 4. Biggest mistake I made is on turn 3 when I play my Drogo in Hand, because Close Call got the other copy in the discard pile, but forgetting about Harrenhal and he kills Drogo again. After that he gets Eddard Stark (WotN) and Renly Baratheon (FFH) out and it's done.

Game 3 - Win vs. Martell/Crossing

This was a good match-up. He didn't have the characters out to get his Crossing trigger off consistently. I also managed to get his board small and on turn 5 the game ended because we were over the 55 min. limit. I was ahead 12 to 10. Because of this I got a 'mod win', which meant I got one point less (4 instead of 5).

Game 4 - Bye

There were 11 of us and because of my point total I got the Bye for the last round.

All in all I had a good time and that's what the game is all about. The mistakes are part of the learning process and I have learned a hard lesson on keeping your big characters duped!

Of course, I'd like to get some suggestions on the deck. Please comment of if you have any questions :).

Your first round opponent here. Great game, good to see new people picking up the game. Your report reminds me of my first SC last year ( I won one game too with targ). Get some practice to get those mistakes out of your games and you can make the cut.
