I wanted to create a deck that keeps my opponents' board small or non-existent without "kill" effects, which isn't my preferred play style. I chose Martell primarily because of their interesting event suite which is not seen in my local meta, and they have strong cards to support the overall goal of the deck. Kings of Winter as the agenda is an unusual combination with Martell, but I intended to use Famine, The First Snow of Winter, and Winter Festival anyway so I figured it might work well. I may try it with Crossing at some point, but the small choke is often vital to the success of the deck.

Open with Winter Festival for gold and early power, and keep the pressure on with Marched to the Wall, Famine, and The First Snow of Winter. I originally had Early Frost and The Long Plan in the plot deck instead of Counting Coppers and Marched to the Wall, but found I frequently needed the extra draw to get to my events and locations, and I would often have just one character left on my opponents' board where Marched to the Wall would be a huge boon. With 4 winter plots, I still get plenty of choke.

The meat of the deck are events and locations. Most of the characters are pretty disposable, although keeping Varys, Myrcella Baratheon, and Arianne Martell are usually high on my list of priorities. Ghaston Grey, Vengeance for Elia, and Burning on the Sand are vital to me, and I use Isle of Ravens and Shadowblack Lane to dig and recur.

It's a little bit different, a ton of fun, and very effective.

Congrats on your success! I've built Martell Winter, but haven't tested yet. Have you considered Harmen Uller, it seems that he can be good with First Snow and Sand Snakes ambush? Why 3x Doran? Could Starfall Cavalry be better? Is single The Boneway worth it?

Single The Boneway works well for me - I don't bank on it, so if I get it out, it's great, but not necessarily a core strategy. If I was going to go 2x, I might reduce Tyene Sand to 2x. Sand Snakes also haven't been a core strategy for me, but I don't see a problem changing out Doran Martell for Harmen Uller and adding 1-2x Nymeria Sand in exchange for a Knights of the Sun or Doran's Game maybe. I do like Doran Martell with Myrcella Baratheon but ultimately this deck is built less around characters and more around the events, so characters are relatively interchangeable.
