The idea for this deck came when I saw Theon Greyjoy (TFoA) in the Fall of Astapor pack. I think this Theon works quite well with the The Lord of the Crossing agenda to win the first challenge. So I thought op this version which does not rely on going first and can handle a setback or two. The idea seemed nice and I liked the idea of trying to win kraken mat using a greyjoy deck.

Time was scarce however and two days before the tournament I've put this deck together and played 4 games with it on throteki. The results were resonable (3-1), so I decided to take the plunge and take this largely untested deck.

The deck did unexpectedly well and I made it the top 4.

Tournament report.

Round 1: Tyrell Watch - Win

First round I was up against an Agressive Tyrell Watch deck. Using Relentless Assault, Jon Snow (WotW) and Qhorin Halfhand supported by 2 claim plots and Tyrell cards like The Arbor and Pleasure Barge. I saw Victarion Greyjoy early and a lot of saves to keep a board presence so I could play Valar Morghulis to even things up. Then Theon Greyjoy (TFoA) nailed it in the first challenge of a Rise of the Kraken turn.

Round 2: Tyrell Lion - Loss

A Tinder marge deck. He started with a triple Ser Gregor Clegane and I had a duped Victarion Greyjoy. We trade power evenly. We both had 3 power after turn 1, 7 power after turn 3 and 14 power on turn 4. I was able to intimidate Ser Gregor Clegane a couple of turns, but could not prevent him killing Theon Greyjoy (TFoA) (with some help of "The Bear and the Maiden Fair". Turn 4 we both flip 5 initiative plots and no one had any initiative modifiers. He won the coin flip and I could not stop a 30 str challenge with 3 renown characters.

Round 3: Greyjoy Lion - Win

A pillage deck. He got Euron Crow's Eye and Ser Gregor Clegane out early and I had 3 times Victarion Greyjoy with some nice support with Esgred and some chuds. Hepillaged me quite a bit but did not gain much power. I find my own Euron Crow's Eye in turn 3 and was able to close it in turn 4 with Rise of the Kraken and a Theon Greyjoy (TFoA) I played that turn.

Round 4: Martell Fealty - Win

Go second Martell with Dornish Fiefdom, Nymeria Sand, Palace Spearman and Tyene Sand. I got Victarion Greyjoy again for setup but he had a much bigger board and Nymeria Sand and Attainted kept stealing my icons. So I could not do 3 challenges a turn. On turn 4 I played Valar Morghulis and topdecked Balon Greyjoy (Core). The brothers kept me in the game until Aeron Damphair (Core) joined and he revived Euron Crow's Eye from the sea (before being returned to hand by The First Snow of Winter the next turn). My opponent did not play Valar Morghulis nor Duel so could not cope with the 3 big characters so I cruised out a win. With 3-1 I made the cut and made my objective, the rise of the kraken mat.

Cut top 8: Lanni Rains - win

A game against my meta mate Frank, which meant at least one of us made it into top 4. It was a quick but tough match. My deck proved quite resilient surviving a 2 claim and 3 claim Trial by Combat in one turn, which left me with Esgred, Theon Greyjoy (TFoA) and Victarion Greyjoy with an Seal of the Hand and no dupes. Victarion Greyjoy proceeded in winning 2 challenges which got him 2 renown until my opponent played Valar Morghulis in round 3 (against my Rise of the Kraken). He had no dupes so had a single Tyrion Lannister (VDS) against a now powerless Victarion Greyjoy and a Priest of the Drowned God. I got 3 unopposed challenges that turn and secured a win.

Cut top 4 - Targ Fealty - Loss

Turn one my opponent played Blood of the Dragon and Crown of Gold on my duped Victarion Greyjoy and I could not seem to recover, I did not see any saves and (for example) my Summons in turn 3 showed 4 events, 5 locations and one copy of the dead Victarion Greyjoy. Needless to say I could not claw back and hand my opponent the win. He preceded in winning the regional in a targ-targ final.

For a deck I've put together two days before a regional with little testing I was quite proud. The winners of the deck are Victarion Greyjoy, the new Theon Greyjoy (TFoA) and the greyjoy saves (Risen from the Sea and Iron Mines. They both won me games. I did not draw into any The Seastone Chair during the tournament and We Do Not Sow kept getting pulled out of my hand all day, so they did the least. I think I do need to add one more high initiative plot, to secure a second round going first.

nice decklist and thank you for sharing.what about adding weapons at the door instead of confiscation?i think it is a good change and will quarantee you the first player as also to have a clear board to make your damage

That is a good idea. I will try it next weekly meetup.

Thoughts on the new Corsair's Dirk I like the idea of having your opponent fund a We Do Not Sow

starclown 142

I think the Corsair's Dirk is good for Balon Greyjoy (Core) and helps agains targs burn. I'm thinking of trying to replace Iron Fleet Scout with them.

theon greyjoy 1

also what do you think about Drowned God's Blessing or The Hand's Judgment to not be so vulnerable to targ?

starclown 142

I think both should work.. I've currently replaced the two Iron Fleet Scout with two Corsair's Dirk. I'm not convinced yet. I'll check if your suggestions work better.
