As the first season of Banter Behind the Throne came to an end we invited Aaron Glazer from the White Book on to the show to build a deck with us. After Don talked to us about Martell Fealty at our Christmas party we were all in the mood for a bit of Dornish action.
Between Dave, Aaron and myself we had all played some Martell leading up to the discussions so we smashed our view points together and came up with this. We were all very sad to cut Heads on Spikes because, well, banter.

Has this performed somewhere? How does it deal against baratheon-greyjoy-targaryen? Sorry, new player :) |
Yea i too would like to know how the deck goes against the current meta as well. |
I made a mistake and published this ahead of schedule - a full discussion of the deck, it’s merits and the reasons behind certain card choices can be found in the next episode of Banter Behind the Throne. It should be up within a day or two. Sorry folks. Once the episode has dropped and enough people have had a chance to listen I will happily field some questions on it. |
15 mil against 10 INT icons and u dont run PttS, but Lys? Can’t say I understand that choice |

The icon count is a very solid feedback when building your deck. If you ignore it simply because you have 1 or 2 cards that work around that … |
Its not massively representative in this case. Edric can have an intrigue icon. Palace Spearmen sometimes do. The three most expensive characters are run in triplicate (and one boosts the others). Nymeria will help smooth it as well when the next pack comes out - and we discuss the changes to make on the cast. On the other hand, a lot of the military icons are small and so triggering PTTS is harder. Don’t take my word for it though because it is well known in the community that I am a bad deck builder. |
The episode where we build this deck is now up - www.cardgamedb.com |
@Dydra it certainly is solid feedback when looking at a deck build but can be misleading when assessing the relative value of challenge based events. |
Let’s not forget that put to the sword requires winning by 5 while tears is triggered by winning. The intrigue icons you have are likely better than anyone outside of Lannister and possibly Tyrell. Glazer, I thought it was funny how you mentioned Martell/stag because I was toying around with an idea for them today. Once again it seems like we are on the same wave link. |
Will try this deck at my Winter kit tournament, wish me luck |
Looking forward to trying this out. One thing I’ve noticed while goldfishing initial setups is that average setups are about 3 cards (for optimal drops without getting affected by Marched to the Wall), but I feel like there’s a eye-raising number of 2 card drops. Is that just randomness or something inherent in the deck so far? |
One thing I’ve been trying out in Fealty decks it dropping the Roseroads. With the in faction reducers, I am not having difficulty with economy. |
From my testing, i have some doubts with Wildling Horde and Rattleshirt’s Raiders, both these cards keeps on stuck in my hand due to other cards are better to be cast. I still thinking of what to replace it with. Maybe Varys or Littlefinger. Anyone else tested this deck yet? |
I rarely marshall either of those cards and instead cheat them in using Arianne. Admittedly though if I see them before I see her, or she is neutralised somehow then yeah, they can be a pain. |
I see them always in every game I tested. Either they are in my starting hand, after mulligan or I just draw into them, and all that before Im see Arianne :( |
I played a slight variant on this today at a local tourney. I dropped one Rattleshirt’s Raiders and one Wildling Horde for two Varys. He was awesome, and so were the Horde - I would probably drop a Rattleshirt’s to bring back the second. I went 2-1, mod loss against NW-Stag, win against Martell-Rose and Lannister Fealty. |
The inclusion of Varys is much needed I think. Playing this deck with Varys helped a lot but I’ve still found myself struggling to put the pieces together enough by turn 5/6 and when I do, there’s a Bran sitting across the table. Bad luck for me. also with Varys now, is Marched worth a second look? Win initiative and pick off what’s left from the board wipe. |
My concern with that is how likely it is you will end up marching a duped up Viper/Doran. |
One simple question : Why don’t contain this deck unboweds? |
Because the card is terrible, mainly. |
This deck is awesome!! 11 points on Viper :3 |
Doesn’t differ too much from my own build, I don’t run Milk but instead play Put To The Sword but aside they are really similar!
