I brought this deck to the Regional at Game Theory in NC and won going 6-0 on the day.
Tournament Report:
Round 1: BYE
There were 30 players which set us at 5 rounds with a top 8 cut, so I decided to use my first round BYE.
Round 2: Win vs Nathan B as Lannister Sun
Seeing Sun across the table during my first round did not make me happy as I feel this is one of the better counters to my deck. On setup I got a Tywin and a reducer which felt great. I was also able to play Ser Gregor and The Tickler turn one. Nathan then dropped a duped Nymeria (which makes Gregor useless) and Attainted on Tywin. Tywin of course gets Tears (sad times) and I thought this game was over. Round 2 I top deck Syrio (Gregor becomes useful again) and an Iron Mines. With the Attainted Nathan received back from Tywin and a Condemned he was able to prevent me from declaring any challenges except MIL until the last turn of the game. But since Gregor could now attack again, I was able to get MIL off every round, which I hit a few key pillages and a PTTS to take board advantage. I ended the game basically only having Gregor and Syrio (plus claim soak) all game, ending with like 6 power on Gregor. I've never gotten so much value out of 2 characters.
Round 3: Win vs Jonathan B as Targ Lion
This game was also intense. I had a subpar draw and mulliganed into a 1 unit setup (at least it also had a Kingsroad). Jon started with Mirri and a reducer. I had to decide if I thought Jon would march and if I should also march to remove his Mirri. I felt like the risk was too high and if I ended up marching my own guy it would of felt horrible. He marched, wrong call on my part. I think I played Noble Cause and was able to play Tywin and some claim soak. I kept Mirri at bay all game, either being able to defend or Treachery her interrupt. My opponent drew tons of dupes which made things hard to kill but also left him with very few options. I ended up being able to close with a MIL challenge gaining the Renown on multiple characters.
Round 4: Win vs Hunter W as Lannister Kraken
This was another great game. I think I opened with Tywin / reducer again and was able to follow up with Asha and Gregor early. I had more 4+ units early, landed a good first snow and was able to support with multiple Ambush characters. We both had a strong board but I was able to get a few power ahead and ended up winning 15-13. I think Hunter could have delayed the game 1 more turn but he was a little aggresive with attacks and I was able to close.
Round 5: Intentional Draw vs Jeremy H as Lannister Crossing
As the only 2 undefeated players remaining we decided to ID to lock into the #1/2 seeds.
Quarter Finals: Win vs Kevin R as Baratheon Fealty
This game I had an OK setup, but Kevin mulliganed into a 1 unit board. I Marched his unit and was able to hold board control the whole thing. He was never able to get more than 1-2 units in play and I drew multiple removal events.
Semi Finals: Win vs Hunter W as Lannister Kraken
Rematch with Hunter and our first game was super close. This was another back and forth battle but I think the key to me winning was ambushing multiple Burned Men to stop Asha from getting unopposed / standing. I don't remember all the specifics of this game, it was a long day lol.
Finals: Win vs Jaime W as Stark Fealty
This game my deck was just super aggresive. On setup I had Theon, Wendamyr, Roseroad and 2 GJ reducers. I opened with Naval hitting a Calling the Banners. Because of the Roseroad and 2 GJ reducers I was still able to marshall Asha (with a dupe). He started with core Caitlyn and some claim soak. Because of Naval he was only able to play a few small units turn 1. Turn 2 I followed with First Snow, and PTTS to kill Eddard (I think) with Burned Men. Turn 3 I Marched killing another main, played Gregor and took total board control. This was probably the most aggressive my deck had been all day, feeling more like Greyjoy than Lannister.
Well done sir and congrats. Looking at your list, and knowing mine I think we could have had quite the battle if I had played and made it to the finals. Great meeting you and enjoyed chatting it up as we did most of the second part of my day.
