I had a lot of fun with this deck over the weekend. I used a more control heavy variant in Joust the day before, (which I will post the list for later) and it had a great showing. I won two tables, tied for last on a table, and made it to top 4, where I took 3rd.
The unfortunate side effect of playing Lannister in melee, is that people see you as a bigger threat than you actually are, and seem to target you instead of using proper threat assessment. This happened twice, and and handed the game to the two tables that I lost, (round 2 and top 4.)
What makes this deck fun AND effective is that Cersei Lannister (LoCR), Melisandre (Core), Even Handed Justice, Treachery, Brothel Madame, and Nightmares all open up the social aspect of the game. It forces deals to be made, can even the board state, and can slow down, or even stop a player from winning when they flip their closing plot. All of that combined with the fact that Cersei and Ser Jaime Lannister (Core) do not kneel to attack in their respective challenges, makes them available for offense and defense, without sacrificing your board state to do so. And yes, Without His Beard won me a game, and has proven itself to have a place in any intrigue deck that runs Lannister, be it main house, or as a banner.
