Rules FAQ

  • Returning to shadows is the cost of the ability, so it still happens even if the effect is canceled.

  • You cannot trigger the ability unless there is a valid target in play (at least one standing character with printed cost 5 or lower that can be knelt, controlled by the losing opponent).

  • If Starfall Spy or The Queen of Thorns (TMoW) are also participating in the same challenge, they can put Harrenhal Cupbearer back into play in the same reaction window, standing (and not participating anymore).

  • You cannot play Poisoned Coin after you triggered Harrenhal Cupbearer if it was your only participating character with shadow. You have to play Poisoned Coin first in that scenario.

  • Returning Harrenhal Cupbearer to shadows can cause another character to be attacking or defending alone for the purposes of triggering card abilities (for instance, Jaqen H'ghar).

  • If Harrenhal Cupbearer was your only attacking character, the challenge resolution still proceeds as normal.
