Rules FAQ
-
You may spend 1 power as 2 gold, 2 power as 4 gold, and so on. If a card or the cost of an ability costs 3 gold, you need to spend 2 power if you are only using Slander and Lies to pay for it. In such a scenario, 1 gold is simply "wasted". However, you can combine Slender and Lies with the gold in your gold pool, so you could potentially pay for a 3-cost card with 1 power from Slander and Lies and an additional 1 gold from your gold pool.
-
You cannot "overpay" for cards with Slender and Lies by spending more power than would be necessary to cover all cost. In other words, you can spend 2 power to pay for a 3-cost card, but you cannot choose to spend 3 power to pay for a 3-cost card. Note that some cards will still allow you to "overpay" in their own text though (for instance, Catspaw).
-
"Spend" refers to any ability that allows a player to choose to pay gold or move gold from his or her gold pool. This includes paying costs and moving gold for bestow. (See Spending Gold.)
-
The word "you" refers to the controller of Slander and Lies, not to the controller of attached character.
-
The renown keyword is optional, so the controller of attached character can choose not to use it.
