I've been trying to create a competitive knights deck. So far I've had some success with it, though it's clearly missing something. If anyone has any ideas, i'd love to hear them :)

Hi, I am also a big fan of Knights and Ladies with House Tyrell and made a few decks with them. Here is what I think:

  • I think Ser Barristan Selmy is far too expensive for you to play. You don't have any Dragonstone Ports and only have 2x Roseroads and and Kingsroads. I personally feel that even 3x of each are not enough (or reliable enough for me to draw in a game) to ensure I can play my 7costers... I would replace him with Selyse or even Melissandre as they are both ladies and can help you activate your LSR. (Plus, your deck is leaning on the weak side in terms of intrigue and power strength anyways). I know you have 2X Arbors but they are expensive to play and they take a least 2 rounds to pay themselves off.
  • I also feel that running 3x Ser Hobber Redwyne is an overkill - 2x is enough.
  • Shireen should be limited to 1x as she is 'designed to be killed off'.
  • The shear amount of 5 costers is also quite alarming if you look at your cost-curve. In conjunction with your rather limited resources, I recommend you to cut out either House Florent Knight or limit the Redwyne twins to only 1x each.
  • I would consider replacing Wilding Scouts with Rattleshirts to help you control annoying attachments. If you really want the stealth effect, why not consider putting in Syrio Forel?
  • 3x Ser Davos is a little too many because he doesn't really 'die'.
  • I think having 9x "small" knights is a little too much. It makes you extremely susceptible to First Snow of Winter. I would rather cut out 3x of either the Vanguard or Arbor Knight and replace them with utility/control cards such as Nightmares or Hand's Judgement to enable to have some defense against strong locations and events from the opponent such as Wintefell, Tear of Lys and Dracarys. Good luck!

thanks for the great advice. :) though if i take out so many guys, i'm having troubles replacing them. do you have any suggestions? I'm a fan of the arbor knight, but if i take out the lancer, i don't have enough bara cards... :(

Yes, sure. If you read my first reply again, you can see that I have made a lot of suggestions and they are actually quite standard things to do in a competitive deck. For example, I did say that you will need some utility cards just in case things don't go as smoothly as you want it to. (Hand's Judgement, Nightmares, Tear of Lys, Rattleshirt Raiders) You can use them to target kill characters that are giving you a hard time; nullify annoying locations; protect yourself from threatening events etc.

37 characters isn't too many, but I usually try to keep it between 30-35. Resources and card advantage are somethings a lot of people overlook. It is nice that you put in the Mander to help you draw more cards. It's also good to have heaps of characters, but they are useless if you don't have the gold to pay for them. 2x roseroad and 2x kingsroad is simply not enough (even with the arbor). As a start, I would urge you to put in three of each instead by taking out two characters.

I think the non-loyal Barratheons have a lot more to offer than just knights and ladies that will help you activate LSR and Tourney for the King. You should consider putting in Melissandre, Fiery Followers, Selyse and Seen in Flames for targeted kneeling. These will help you win power challenges with 5+ STR far easier to activate Superior Claim and the Mander. Although they are not all directly 'knights and ladies', they will help you to achieve those ultimate goals (i.e. power rush).

well thanks alot, mate. I really appreciate it. i was hoping to stay with the theme as close as possible, but i guess that's not really realizable with the currently available cards. I'll concentrate on the power rush for now. :)
