I know that being the Second Best Martell while there has been only 8 of 185 players is not an awesome result.

However, I’m kind of proud of my result, mostly because 2 of the 3 games I did loose were so close that I could had made to the TOP 32, and because I did choose Martell (my favorite house) in a moment when there are other houses stronger and/or more stable to play.

Let’s talk a little about the deck:

It was second version of an old concept back at the beginning of AGoT 2.0. The objectives I did have in mind while I was conceiving and upgrading the deck were:

  • I didn’t want a deck that causes me a lot of attrition. Depravation of sleep in combination with 8 long rounds provides an easier environment to make mistakes.
  • Winning power is how you win the game.

With that in mind, the next to do was to ban certain concepts that I always assume, like:

  • If you banner with the stag, you have to use knelling.
  • If you use Martell, you have to use a lot of control.

And that was that, with those principles removed, and the focus on the important things, the deck came alone very easy.

Then, all I had to do was, oppose as much as I can, and focus on winning the power challenges, while threatening my opponent’s hand as much as I can. In order to protect my characters and hand, I added the challenge control events. As I did not include ChooseAndKill cards, or control attach, I did used two resets.

The tourney’s metagame was not very friendly for this deck, because there were a lot of Iron Thrones for example, but it was nice to see my opponent’s realize that no matter what (win challenges, lose challenges, or don’t start challenges), I was triggering effects and winning power constantly.

M.V.P: Doran's Game. Surpriseeeee (ask always if they cancel you the event before assuming you’ve won, just in case). NOTE: All my games were finished fast, and without much attrition (at least for me).

Anyway, this deck has a lot of improvement pending, mainly because I created it the night before the tournament. Incoming cards will improve this deck too. Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.

Regards. Willham.
