Wigg 112
For those that asked, this is the deck I played at the 401 Games Store Championship on Feb 28th, 2016. The tourney can be seen on Rob St John's YouTube channel.
This was the 2nd SC I played the weekend of the 28th. I changed up my deck a bit to try out Hedge Knights and Mares in Heat, and also added 2 Milks of the Poppy.
My first round was against Rob St. John, who has already won 3 SCs in the area, so he was spicing things up by playing Lannister Sun. We both had excellent setups (Tywin, Merchant, Roseroad). I milked Tywin turn 1 and he did not have Confiscation in his deck. I managed to get some other renown characters out before he did, though he had Nymeria in all her glory. I lost Tywin to a PTTS after Nymeria took his Mil icon, but I was far enough ahead on power that I still won the race.
2nd Round
This round I played Philippe Paquin, who was running Tyrell Crossing. Turn 2 or 3 he already had Marg, KoF and Randy out with dupes/bodyguards on all of them. I had a lot of hassle against him, not being able to get rid of them with kill effects. This was my first game against a Crossing deck and I made some mistakes, letting him go 2nd a lot was one of them. That allowed him to know that he could use all his characters to get his 3 challenges without having to worry about me hitting back. I lost this one, though it was still pretty close if I recall. Rob St. John has this game on video. Philippe went 4-0 in the Swiss.
3rd Round
This round I played against a young man named Rhys, I am not sure how old he was, but if I had to guess I would say 13 or 14. He was playing Greyjoy fealty. He put up a tough fight, but I was able to kill his Balon early and pass on challenges to make sure that Damphair didn't resurrect him. I was able to take this win without too much trouble after that.
4th Round
This round I played against a Lannister Rose mirror match. The game was pretty close, but my opponent was fighting a cold and he called GG about halfway through.
The top 4 were:
1 - Tyrell Cross 2 - Baratheon Sun 3 - Greyjoy Fealty 4 - Me (Lanni Rose)
Top 4
I was paired up against Philippe again in the first round of the top 4. The game was pretty even for the first few turns, until Philippe accidentally played Confiscation instead of Filthy Accusations. He ended up discarding his own Mare in Heat. After that, I was able to Milk his Randyll and knew he wouldn't be able to remove it. I learned from our first game, making him go first most of the time that I won initiative. It made it a lot harder for him to get off his 3rd challenge, because it would leave me with too many unopposed challenges. This game is on video from Rob St. John as well.
Top 2
Here I was in the finals against Shomar (Thronerunner) running his Greyjoy Fealty that he loves so much. I don't mind Greyjoy too much, but Balon is a giant thorn in my side. He had Balon out pretty early, and a Great Kraken and Seastone Chair not long after that. I was able to Milk Balon, and even though he still had stealth I was able to manage him. I won plenty of intrigue challenges in the first few turns and wished that was able to find a Tears of Lys, as I had 2 Hand's Judgement in hand to cancel his saves/cancels. He Confiscated the Milk a few turns later, and played out a Raiding Longship and an Iron Fleet Scout. At that point I would need to have 3 characters out that can match his STR, and two of them with attachments otherwise the Chair does its thing. I didn't see any attachments and the game ended rather quickly as things do against Balon. That game was recorded by both Thronerunner and Rob St. John.
Congrats to Shomar on his win :) After 3-4 top 4s I'm very happy to see him take a plaque home.

Thanks :) |
This decklist is slightly off, I have adjusted it and posted the correct one at: |
The correct decklist is -1 Seal of the Hand, +2 Milk of the Poppy. |
Nice work and congrats on the weekend! I have a very similar deck and obviously Mare in Heat is an amazing card in this deck but what did you think of the Hedge Knights? You lose the ambush on Burned Men but did you miss it? Also, I have 2x Milk of the Poppy but did you like having them in the deck or would you rather cut and have better setup? |
Thanks :) The Hedge Knights were pretty decent. I usually had Jaime or Knight of Flowers out when I had one, so most of the time they had their ability working. I did miss the Burned Men, ambushing in to prevent unopposed challenges is never a bad thing. For this tournament, the Milks were invaluable. I shut down Tywin for one entire game, shut down Randyll in the top 4 and had Balon milked in the finals for 2-3 turns. You can also use them in a pinch against Raiding Longships to make sure your character can defend, though I'd much rather have a positive attachment on my characters of course :) |
Saw you play with it, great deck.
