Rules FAQ

  • A character that cannot be killed cannot be chosen for any effect that would kill it, including claim. Living Shadow can still be placed in the dead pile from shadows though, by cards like Hired Assassin or Enemies in Every Shadow.

  • If Bolton Flayer is in play, Living Shadow cannot be chosen for its ability. Another character with cost 2 must be chosen instead. If there is no other character, Bolton Flayer's ability does not resolve.

  • You can always choose not to use the stealth keyword.

  • The forced reaction triggers in the same reaction window as reactions to the challenge being initiated, or reactions to characters being knelt or declared as attackers. Since the reaction is forced, it triggers before any non-forced reactions in this window.

  • If you stealth a character with the "no attachments" keyword, Living Shadow cannot be attached to it, so the forced reaction will not resolve.

  • If Living Shadow was the only attacking character, the challenge will still proceed as normal, but the attacking player cannot win the challenge unless they have at least one participating character.

  • The forced reaction does not cause Living Shadow to enter or leave play. You cannot trigger reactions to an attachment entering play, nor can you trigger reactions to a character leaving play. This also means that cards like Summerhall (FtR) or The Crone will not stop the forced reaction from resolving.

  • When Living Shadow becomes an attachment, it loses the character cardtype. It is no longer affected by abilities that target or refer to characters, but it is affected by abilities that target or refer to attachments.

  • Sweetsleep will not blank the text of Living Shadow after it becomes an attachment, because this text is not a part of its printed text box.

  • You can sacrifice Living Shadow for Trading With Qohor after it becomes an attachment, to search for a different attachment with printed cost 2 or lower.
