This deck has been on a tear for me lately and is currently 14-0 for me with only a few edits.

The Deck’s name derives from my cute alternate name for Bass Pro Shop, which is “Kill Things Emporium,” where the basic premise of this deck is “Dead Men oppose no challenges”

I play this deck super aggressively, where I aim to setup 4 cards and a typical game will play as follows:

Turn 1: Summons for Drogo

Turn 2: Noble Cause to play Drogo

Turn 3: Winds of Winter and clear the board with 2 Military challenges and all the fury.

Summons always wants to find a Drogo, and use Drogo and a WoW to wipe the board ASAP. Plaza, Dracrys, Marched, and PttS all kill stuff and then you win. No game I’ve played with this deck ever gets me to 15 power; every opponent simply scoops at some point.

Some thoughts on this deck:

  • Power is an absolutely irrelevant number, so you have to focus on maintaining board position. The moment you start caring the Mormont and Drogo have renown is the moment you start losing. Never be afraid to give Mormont his 3rd token and use Waking the Dragon on Drogo simply because of the power swing.

  • Board control is usually good, so I axed Wildfire for Feast for Crows. Wildfire actually annoyed me, as I aim to have my opponent under 3 characters at all times, so Wildfire almost always hurt me more than them. Feast is a 6 gold plot that also forces my opponent to react or I gain 3 power (The power itself is irrelevant per the above point, but you can’t ignore an opponent with 12-13 power regardless) The 4 reserve is annoying though, so it will likely be replaced with the Targ loyal plot when its released (Maybe Supporting the Faith instead?). This one minded focus on killing dudes is also why I play no milks. A dead Bob is better than a milked one.

  • This deck can muster a lot of cheap military strength to win those early challenges to keep their board nice and tidy. Mormon, Drogon and Braided Warriors (Unsullied is essential against weenie decks)also provide some nice cost-strength ratios and can even give stark a run for its money.

  • Waking the Dragon is best when it’s unexpected due to having no obvious target. I use it all the time to untap Drogo to go in for my 2nd military challenge and kill some important dudes. Who cares if it goes back to my hand if they have no dudes to play?

Revisions:

  • I’ve been super happy with the plots lately, but there have been time I really wish I had a 2nd Marched. This deck has a giant target on Balon, and its really hard to win if they make one stick, so a 2nd March would definitely help you go first and clear the way.

  • Fealty is super necessary in the current meta, but choosing those 15 neutrals is hard. 2 Hand’s judgment helps against GJ, Bara Kneel and Targ Control (all hot decks in the meta), but I really miss Tears at times for more killing. I’d play around with it, but maybe the balance needs to shift a bit for the neutrals (Including maybe cutting a Seal).

Thanks for the feedback and enjoy the brawl!

Great write up. I appreciate the tip to ignore power and focus on board control. That usually just ends up happening for me anyway, but power has always been on my mind, and it feels good to just let go.

I am concerned however with Greyjoy’s The Seastone Chair You mentioned Balon Greyjoy being an issue, but when he sits on his chair, hes a monster. Have you had success in this situation? Do you just cross fingers for Put to the Sword or Plaza of Punishment + Dracarys!? Have you considered Put to the Torch?

Thanks again for the deck list.

I’ve noticed that everything in AGoT (I’ve never played 1.0, so I can’t comment there) has a balance/restriction. Dracarys! requires participation, Plaza of Punishment requires no attachments, and The Seastone Chair requires an unopposed military challenge as the attacker. Usually the game plan against chair is good, as that’s one more non-character card in their deck that I don’t have to kill. The easiest way to stop chair is to simply block the challenge, with Drogo even if you have to.

You have lots of strength lowering effects, so making Balon smaller makes him much waeker. You then attack in kind and can put Balon to bed (don’t forget you can stack effects for a team kill, like Plaza of Punishment, Dracarys! and Daenerys Targaryen. As best as you can, you must prevent unopposed military challenges from going through, as Greyjoy will rock you quite a bit there, but the other two challenges are a bit weak, even unopposed. The reason why Balon is annoying is his ability to power rush and draw cards with Kraken, not necessarily because of his ability to dominate the board.

Honestly, aside from Risen from the Sea, GJ is a great match up for this deck, as they rely on 1-3 characters on the board, making them very weak to lots of military claim.

That is very true. Targ has some of the most efficient gold to militarily there is. Little guys like the Braided Warriors and dragons help so that even if GJ match a stealth for each Targ heavy hitter, they can at the very least prevent the unopposed, and let your team hit back harder.

The counter to Balon Greyjoy with Dracarys! and either Plaza of Punishment (6 so safe against Risen from the Sea) or Daenerys Targaryen / Unsullied (5 for exact lethal) does rely on him not sailing an Iron Fleet Scout. But even there, weather the GJ is first player or not, determines his ability to be shrunk to death. Its a really interesting interaction. I agree these two decks would clash well.

What is your opinion on Merchant Prince? It helps a bit with the intrigue hole. I found his biggest issue is being in a deck with so many characters that dont have hands .. or do, but are way too manly to hold fancy items like Noble Lineage.

Noble Lineage is pretty useful in the matchup though is you could attach it Daenerys Targaryen or Khal Drogo to keep them safe against The Seastone Chair. Always good on Ser Jorah Mormont as well. Against non-GJ, well it costs 0 so its rarely worthless .. and at worst its intrigue fodder.
