I managed to come in 12th in a Swiss Cut of 28 players in the recent regional tournament. Would hopefully gather some feedback to see how to further improve my deck.

Current changes I'm considering:

-Adding 1x Rattleshirt's Raiders and removing Confiscation for a 2nd Head On Spikes/ 2 claim Winter plot/ Snowed Under etc.

-More Raiding Longships and maybe Iron Fleet Scouts

-Adding in Drowned God's Blessing to protect Balon (the only card to the strategy effectively) from Tears and PttS

Below is the report of the matches I played:

Round 1 vs Stark Fealty (W) This wasn't too much of a problem. I did manage to remove Winterfell which was played during set up with a We Do Not Sow though it did come back a few turns later. Missed my Heads on Spikes but fished a Milk out, leaving Balon untouched and allowed me to push through multiple challenges quickly because he had a lack of big characters early game. The 2nd Winterfell did prevent quite a few of my triggers such as Great Kraken and The Reader.

Round 2 vs Baratheon Fealty (L) I got completely thrashed this game. Even though I had Balon and Seastone with a milked Melisandre, didn't manage to draw any intrigue icons so the third challenge never existed. Should I add in more intrigue icons for the deck or can I consider Littlebird to protect Balon from Tears and get multiple challenges in with Seal and Littlebird on Balon?

Round 3 vs Lannister Wolf (L) This game I think my set up was quite bad and Balon got tearsed the second he came out and I had no saves whatsoever. Again, is Drowned God's Blessing worth it despite me having 8 save cards already for Balon? Or should I consider Littlebird? Don't think more intrigue icons would help in this case due to a lack of economy on the Greyjoy side and I probably wouldn't win Intrigue against Lannisters anyway.

Round 4 vs Greyjoy Fealty (W) This game was straightforward because I opened with Balon and Kraken. Even though Euron stole 2 Kingsroad and 1 Raiding Longship from me, my power rush was way too fast to handle and Rise of the Kraken + 2 Salty Navigators for 10 Initiative won me the game. Iron Fleet Scouts however was a very annoying card on her part. I had to think quite hard because it prevented Balon from getting through challenges even with 7 STR from Crossing (+2) because Iron Fleet Scout would simply raise the strength of Euron and Drowned Men etc. Should I run my own Iron Fleet Scouts? Or is it too much of an investment?

Round 5 vs Lannister Greyjoy (W) Again, Balon Seastone and Kraken set up pretty much won me the game... and also a lot of luck because he didn't have a single Tears, Iron Mines and Treachery the whole game so my targeted kills finished off Tywin and Tyrion and Gregor was marched. If he had drawn Tears, Iron Mines and Treachery the game would have went differently. Should I tech in Hand's Judgement for Treachery and Tears (and also PttS)? Or would it be better to merely rush straight for power and ignore targeted kill? I've been debating about including Seastone at all because it was often times a bonus and I only saw it 2/5 games though it did definitely win me 1 game.

P.S. My local meta revolves quite heavily around Lannister main house, with banners ranging from Kraken (most popular) to others like Wolf and Sun. There was also an equal number of Stark Fealty. Greyjoys were quite popular too (Fealty/Crossing) and the rest were small in number (Martell, Baratheon and surprisingly Night Watch).

Hope to get some feedback! :D

Since you asked for comments on reddit:

Throw in Euron. With Noble Cause and Pentoshi you can afford him and he's an econ machine. Plus a tricon is great for crossing.

Commit to the rush. Superior claim is a mediocre card, but it has won me games on turn 2. Throw in 2 copies maybe, and pull out something like Milk or We do not Sow.

Personally I run 2 support of the people and only one great kraken, because I would rather use the event to put it in play, and there are other good targets. That's an opinion though.

Basically, you don't have to worry as much about control and keeping your characters alive if you win really really fast, and GJ crossing can pull that off.

Hi @WinterNite

First of all, congats to the 12th place in the regional. I myself played a bit with GJ Crossing (with a deck only 7-8 cards different than yours) in the past, but had no tournament success (I'm definitely not a pro player, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.)

Some random thoughts:

-29 characters seems a bit too few to me, especially for a Crossing deck. With 3x Iron Mines and 3x Risen from the Sea it just might be enough, but I'd include a couple more.

-What about 1x Aeron Damphair? He gets the buff from the Priest of the Drowned God, plus he's great if you lose a Balon/Asha early to Heads on Spikes/Tears.

-Speaking of Tears, please do note that Drowned God's Blessing does NOT protect from Tears, I'll let the pros explain why: www.cardgamedb.com That said, Drowned God's Blessing is still a good card, but maybe only 1x/2x instead of 3x.

-I really love Little Bird in Greyjoy, it's great on Balon or Asha, and not too bad on Theon/Wendamyr either. In a Lanni-heavy environment I'd go as far to say that it is a 2x autoinclude in GJ decks.

-Iron Fleet Scout is also a good card, great on setup, makes Balon a true monster, plus messing with challange math is always fun. I'd include two, cutting maybe one Raiding Longship and a Sea Tower.

-For most people the omission of Euron might be a bit surprising. I understand you, I don't play him either. The lack of Drowned Men surprises me though, with all these ships and the Priests (Drowned Men also have the Drowned God trait), they can easily become 7-8 STR bicons, which for only 4 gold is a great investment (plus the look on the Lanni players face when you win a challange with them versus the almighty Tywin is priceless XD)

-I'd definitely not play PTTS, and would go full rush. Maybe play Superior Claim? Very easy to trigger with all the stealth + Crossing's buff (with the right board, Balon can trigger it by himself) and really speeds your way to 15 power.

Hope I helped somewhat.

Good luck going forward!

@japandy42Thanks so much for the comments! I actually did consider including Euron into the deck initially. However, I made the ultimate decision to cut him because 1. He didn't help much in trying to rush your opponent down as he prevents no unopposed 2. Was a bit expensive despite the Trading and Noble which I use for buildings + Balon/Balon alone respectively. Will reassess him though thanks!

Definitely will consider Superior Claim but will unlikely take out Milk because (maybe 1?) because of how useful it is against many classes. I'm personally very conservative on superior claim because it is sometimes a dead card against the dreaded Baratheon match up.

I never considered that line of thought haha. Will definitely do some play testing with that. Like above, I persobally am conservative and afraid of dead cards if I don't get a board together. Thanks!

@Winnetou19

Hey! Thanks for the comments!

  1. Throughout my games I felt the character count was okay because I typically relied on Balon and him alone and threaded on thin ice of about 3-4 characters only and let all ythe unopposed through.

  2. I will definitely consider Aeron especially with want you said. Almost forgot of his existence when I wanrsd to think of ways to stop a Tears ruining my whole game.

  3. oh! I didn't realise that at all. Might consider it but unlikely to add it because I wanted it initially solely for guarding Tears.

  4. Hmm. Will definitely try to find space for them thanks!

  5. Agreed on the Iron fleet scouts. Helps negate the Lannisters Widow Wail too haha. Thanks!

  6. I personally didn't enjoy the Drowned Men because they were expensive and in no way helped in UO for Power rush. 4 gold for a resource thst doesn't assist in rushing power didn't make it worth to me despite high STR. I followed the same concept in why I udidn't se Euron.

  7. Ic. Will definitely consider Superior Claim, only worries is that it's a win more card.

drowned gods blessing doesn't stop tears. and is probably better on asha to save from dracarys etc.
