• You cannot look at the card in advance, unless something else is granting you that permission (for instance, Maester Gormon). You can only look at the card once it is placed in shadows.

• The card you place in shadows does not gain the shadow keyword by default. If it does not have the printed shadow keyword, you will need some other way to bring it out of shadows (for instance, Starfall Spy, Doran Martell (AHaH), or A Traitor's Whisper).
