Been iterating on this deck. I've logged maybe 6 games so far.
The Wars To Come [W] - I don't remember much about this game other than I was able to out claim his military challenges.
The Wars To Come [W] - Got Rattleshirt online quickly with claim 2, then 3 with a Dreadfort Maester and The Dreadfort. Quick concession.
The Lord of the Crossing [W] - This was a Frey build. The game swung in my favor after I warded his Black Walder. Back to back 2+ claim prevented him from getting much of a board presence.
"The Rains of Castamere" [L to time] - This was an incredibly close game. My opponent was also a much more experienced player than me. Arya really shined, nerfing all the great saves. I wiped his board down to a single great hall. It was very back and forth. Eventually he got out Asha Greyjoy (Km) and mega-pillaged me a couple times before having her put to the sword. I think that allowed him to get a stock of chuds to outlast my attrition. Went to time and he had more power -- though I think the game was swinging to his favor at that point.
The Wars To Come [L] - This game started very much in my favor, essentially wiping his board down to one character, setting up the march. He played Someone Always Tells, I sac'd a bran, and then he played another Someone Always Tells. Frownie face. After that he was able to outrace the attrition. Good game, great player.
Kings of Summer [L to time] - This game ended with the board in my favor and a claim 3 Rattleshirt online. So, a tough pill to swallow given I felt like I was very much in control. I guess that means I need more closing power.
So, against the 3 tier 1ish decks, I lost. However, two of them were due to time and in both of those games I made some silly mistakes.
Lessons Learned:
- Sneak Attack is a double edged sword. Being limited to one challenge is killer, but it can sometimes just wreck -- especially if you have Rattleshirt and Winter Is Coming. First turn claim 3 followed by Marched to the Wall or Ramsay Snow can be difficult to recover from. The plot line is very good despite the drawback...
- Arya Stark (TFM) is an absolute force. I need to get better about using her kneel/stand to my advantage.
- Power wins games and this deck tends to get down on power early, which can cause issues if you go to time. Added Val, Eddard Stark (WotN) and another Dreadfort Maester to try and get some power early. Though, being down on power has nice synergy with King Beyond the Wall. Though kinda jank, I was able to get the fabled claim 4 at least once -- which is just fun.
- I think there's still some work to do on the plots.
- I think economy is always going to feel a bit tight in decks like this, but I think there's room for improvement.
Idk, it was a fun experiment and seems to catch people off guard if you're looking for something to play that's a little out of the ordinary. Also, claim 4 is just hilariously fun, especially when pulling it off with "bad" cards like King Beyond the Wall :P
