Victarion Seaworth 9
So, that's my Stahleck deck.
Only got 2/8 with it, but as it is my first tournament, I'm ok with that.
Thanks to Colonialbob and Misteryellow for helping me ajusting it. And Thanks to James Waumsley for that super-cool agenda.
Ideas of the deck:
-
Kill your own: Ser Gregor Clegane (FotS) can kill your Acolyte of the Waves and your Karstark Lancer very well, to fast gain power. Also the reducers are good targets for it. get your killed stuff back with "On a Misty Morn" and get additional power with The Boy King. Also Wylla Manderly is nice in that theme.
-
Swarm: many 1 or 2 cost characters that are easy to swarm, also getting easily put in by kneeling reducers, Ocean Roads and Renly Baratheon (FotS). Get the swarm save with The Crone and stand them with Septon Meribald.
-
Monocons: all the reducers and some other characters like Varamyr Sixskins are monocons. this is utilized by Highborn Recruit and Sentinel Stand.
-
Kneel: Robert Baratheon (Core), Varamyr Sixskins and Ser Gregor Clegane (FotS) all are good to intimidate your opponent's characters.
-
challenges: many icons in the deck, which can be utilized with The Starry Sept, Support of the People and Superior Claim.
-
Losing as defender: Hellholt gives you quite a good amount of power, Iron Mines (R) and Bodyguard save you against over-claim and kill effects from your opponent.
-
goodstuff things: Renly Baratheon (FotS), Braavos and Oathkeeper are insanely strong in UtR, Margaery Tyrell (Core) is good and Ser Barristan Selmy (LoCR) is very nice cause your cheap cards get easier out of hand. Frozen Solid is also a very strong card to have. Bloodraven is a nice thing to outplay the opponent and also can be brought in with the Renly+Oathkeeper combo. Bronn (CoW) is nice to put in with Renly. in the later turns you most of the times get the money to afford playing him. Edric Dayne (Core) is very versitile and is in most cases a monocon, the Stealth is wonderful to have.
PLOTS: Counting Coppers: important draw because of the cheap cards, that get swarmed out.
Enemies in Every Shadow: very nice STR boost and anti-shadow tech. insanely good gold value too.
Parley at Storm's End: counter against single-challenge focused decks (Rains, SoB, maybe Prince).
The Crone: lovely saving against opponent's reset to keep all your small stuff.
Trading with the Pentoshi: opener, gives enough gold to get you a full board out in turn 1, if you have a good hand.
Valar Dohaeris: reset, very strong when only chuds on my board.
You Win Or You Die: nice short-term draw, 2 claim, gets the initiative most likely.
The Games:
-
Tyrell Knights of the Realm. Lost, because I got over-swarmed by Green-Apple Knights and other stuff.
-
Greyjoy Banner of the Dragon. Was demolished by Vic with Queensguard he got in setup. Also unlucky match-up as DG doesn't try to kill my characters.
-
Greyjoy The House With the Red Door. Also Drowned God, lost very close in the end due to not getting enough kill triggers on my characters.
-
Targaryen The Gift of Mercy. Got overrushed with tokens because I normally do not use my characters to defend (Hellholt, Iron mines,...). costed me the game in the end.
-
Targaryen The Prince that was Promised. Close game from the beginning. Renly allowed me to cheat in Meribald and Barristan, avoiding prince triggers. Hellholt was insane value, mostly in Military challenges, and Starry sept got me a lot of power through surprises, which made the opponent's Cohollo useless most of the times. At the end I could force a win due to 14 power total and a combo of Marge and Hellholt, giving me my first win.
-
Lannister "The Rains of Castamere". Got really overwhelmed at the beginning, but a lucky Valar Dohearis removed the opponent's Ser Daven Lannister and Ser Jaime Lannister (Core). In the end, YWOYD got me the final powers with a very lucky draw of Gregor and an Acolythe of the Waves.
-
Night's Wath Banner of the Kraken. I got super-overwhelmed by that attrition deck, never got a real board state after turn 2. Too few cards drawn for me.
-
Tyrell The Lord of the Crossing. Opponent got 2x Lady Sansa's Rose triggers and the crossing power, so it was a clear thing, even though I got a quite full board, the Green-Apple Knights and all the other stuff were just too much STR.
Overall it was a real fun deck to play with. I met a lot of nice people and the weekend is one I won't forget for a long time. Thanks to everyone for creating that wonderful experience. See you all again next year
