Finished 5th before the cut out of 25 players at Trotta’s Hobbies’ Winter Kit Tournament in Barnegat, NJ. There were 4 rounds of Swiss cut to Top 8. Lost the first round of the cut. This was the biggest one yet here in South Jersey and it keeps growing. Great group of people who were a lot of fun to talk to and play against.

Swiss:

Round 1 vs NW banner Wolf (Win) - we have played against eachother twice in the previous tournament and when the pairing came out I was a little bummed I decided to cut Put to the Torch because I know when his deck gets going there’s nothing you can really do to stop it. The game turned around when I Flipped Wildfire Assault into his Fortified Position with all his good characters out like benjen Sansa Aemon etc… Closed next round with renown.

Round 2 vs GJ banner Sun (Loss) - was a very close game. He turn 1 Heads on Spikes a Dracarys!…and then turn 1 pillaged another. So that was fun. We were tied in power most of the game until he was able to Sneak Attack with more power str, even after Balon ate my final Dracarys. Was a good game but gave me too much anxiety.

Round 3 vs Martell banner Lion (Win) - this game went pretty good for me. With Plaza of Punishment and Tears of Lys I was able to kill a character with each challenge early on and keep his board low.

Round 4 vs Lanni banner Rose (Win) - this game was interesting. And we both were able have fun with it. I saw 0 cards I needed. He didn’t see a single economy location. So I ended up using renown to push a win. The last turn he payed 5 for The Things I Do For Love on The Knight of Flowers with a bunch of renown on it but was able to prevent that with a The Hand’s Judgment.

Top 8: Loss to Targ Fealty - This game went absolutely terrible for me from the beginning and he mowed me down pretty early. Had a not so good set up (first one below 4 on the day) and he had Dany and all the dragons out by turn 1. His Tears and Dracarys did me in early and there was no way to recover. I think I was actually supposed to face that GJ banner Sun again i’m not sure what the mixup was.

Before Taking The Black, I played mainly Targ Sun and I love it. Still my favorite banner faction for Targ. I thought with the release of The Hound I’d give Targ Lion a try. It was good. The synergies are great. But there was just something about it that I didn’t like. Probably the weakness.

So I put this together and it’s been a lot of fun. I love what Tyrell can bring to Targaryen. Between Ser Jorah Mormont, Khal Drogo and even Dany + KoF and Tarly…that’s a lot of renown. Randyll Tarly was awesome all day for me in actually every game. Except for the last game. Where he was Tears’d. Which wasn’t awesome.

Plot deck is pretty standard. Calling the Banners was a last minute add the day of. And I hated playing Wildfire Assault in 4 out of the 5 games I played.

Would probably go x2 Growing Strong and drop “The Bear and the Maiden Fair”. I love Bear and the Maiden Fair but every time I saw a Growing Strong instead of Maiden Fair i was relieved.

Syrio’s Training is for Dany and the little Tyrell bicons. I’m pretty fond of these icon attachments actually. And for 1g, i’ll gladly put Heartsbane on any Tyrell character in this deck. Obviously ideal on Randyll - who got it 3 times and it was awesome. Except for the Top 8 where he was Tears’d with Heartsbane on him. And that wasn’t awesome.
