I won the Common Ground Games store champs with this deck, which is a modified version of the deck I took to the MaxXP store champs a few weeks ago.
Martell are about to get a whole lot stronger with the imminent release of their deluxe box, but right now I think banner Wolf (and probably Crossing/banner Stag) is where Martell's competitive chances lie.
Championship Summary (4 Rounds)
Round 1: Greyjoy Crossing - Win Round 2: Tyrell Crossing - Win Round 3: Targ Red Door (Punishment) - Win Round 4: Night's Watch Crossing- Win
Round Report
-
Greyjoy Crossing - Win Against any Crossing deck (particularly Greyjoy) I want to see Varys early, ideally in the company of "The Last of the Giants". I drew the former but not the latter, but was lucky to be able to marshal him. My opponent's deck had a Drowned God theme which didn't really get going. Thereafter things were kept under control thanks to Ward, Ramsay Snow and Marched to the Wall.
-
Tyrell Crossing- Win It was Varys and Ward to the rescue again in the 2nd round with plenty of assistance from Flea Bottom. I didn't allow my opponent any opportunity to stabilise his board and made sure his hand was under constant pressure thanks to His Viper Eyes and prioritising intrigue challenges.
-
Targ Red Door (Plaza of Punishment) - Win This match-up worried me a great deal. I knew if I didn't see Frozen Solid early I would be hard pressed to pull off a win. Fortunately, after a 5-card setup, I found one when drawing back up. With the Plaza shut down turn 1, and Viserys Targaryen (Core) joining my ranks thanks to Ward, the pressure was off much earlier than expected. An opposing Flea Bottom and Isle of Ravens fell victim to the life-saving Frozen Solid too.
- Night's Watch Crossing - Win Valar Morghulis was the real saviour in this game. Ward found an interesting target in a Steward at the Wall with Longclaw attached. Jon Snow (Core) was dispatched with His Viper Eyes. After Qhorin Halfhand was eliminated with Valar Morghulis, Arya Stark (Core) saw plenty of action thanks to Flea Bottom recursion and a final unopposed power challenge.
Thanks to the staff at Common Ground Games for running a very slick tournament.
Long live Martell!
