Rules FAQ

  • You are considered to be the controller of the plot while you initiate its When Revealed ability, so the immunity granted by cards like Septa Mordane or Maester Luwin will not work for you, but it will work for your opponents.

  • If you choose to initiate the When Revealed ability of Varys's Riddle, you can subsequently initiate a When Revealed ability of a plot that is currently revealed.

  • If you choose to initiate the When Revealed ability of At Prince Doran's Behest, you can reveal a new plot card in the challenges phase, in a similar way to "The Rains of Castamere". If you reveal your final plot card in this way, return all the plot cards in your used pile to your plot deck, as you would normally. Note that the When Revealed ability of At Prince Doran's Behest cannot be canceled, but Taste the Blood itself can still be canceled even if At Prince Doran's Behest is chosen.

  • Initiating the When Revealed ability of Power Behind the Throne will not do anything, unless there is another copy of Power Behind the Throne currently revealed. If that is the case, you can (and must) put a stand token on it. The controller of that plot can then use that stand token to stand a character.

  • You can initiate the When Revealed abilities of City of Spiders or Pulling the Strings, but they will only let you initiate a further When Revealed ability you could have chosen for Taste the Blood in the first place.

  • If an opponent has Outwit revealed, they can use it to cancel the When Revealed ability you are trying to initiate with Taste the Blood (assuming they also have a Maester and their faction card is still standing). Other cards that can potentially cancel the When Revealed ability include Fear Cuts Deeper Than Swords, Lord Protector's Retainer, Rickon Stark and Someone Always Tells. For Someone Always Tells, the phrase "opponent's event or triggered plot ability" will always apply to the player playing Taste the Blood, regardless of which player's used pile the event is interacting with.

  • The When Revealed ability completely resolves before Taste the Blood is placed in your discard pile, so you cannot shuffle it back into your deck with Rebuilding. At the same time, the event is no longer in your hand to be discarded for Ravages of War.
