Finally went to my 1st AGOT LCG event (laval 11 players) and I really had fun. This is my 1st deck for competitive play and it was a lot of fun (except maybe in the 1st game). I finished 6th (tied at 11pts with 4th & 5th, so STR of schedule made me 6th) with 2W-1L-1Mod L.

1st game - Karma was a bitch and I played my Good Buddy Guillaume B.(who I introduced to the game…way to start the event with one of us getting a loss). He was playing a Bara fealty (which I know the deck very well). Let’s just say my draw was bad, I got no econ and only medium to high cost characters…the score was close for a while, but every turn longer the game lasted, the more I played into his deck strategy. He eventually got The Iron Throne & Chamber of the Painted Table and had Robert Baratheon + Melisandre so it was GG. I got Daenerys Targaryen super late. Too bad because I know Targ has game vs Bara but these things happen.

2nd game - I played Tony and his Lannister/Rose. This was my modified Loss, he started out strong with Tyrion Lannister and Cersei Lannister turn 1 and quickly added Margaery Tyrell. He attacked my hand pretty hard all game but the game was won turn 1 when he payed 7 gold to play The Things I Do For Love on Daenerys Targaryen and then Claiming her out of my 6 cards in hand(I had Calm Over Westeros out so he only had Claim of 1). He also managed to get his 3 Milk of the Poppy and continually apply them to Khal Drogo and Magister Illyrio. The score at the end was something like 10-11 to my 4. GG

3rd game - I played another good friend, Guillaume M., (who I introduced to the game also) and his GJ/Rose ”Rush” deck. However things went completely different, I got good set-up, played Daenerys Targaryen early (Turn 2 I think), Dracarys! Theon Greyjoy turn 1…it was GG quickly (unfortunately for him, my draw luck turned around) and I had a clear win.

4th game - I played Kim who was really cool, it was a fun/relax game with her Tyrell/Stark. Unfortunately for her, my draw was awesome, my STR was good, I played Daenerys Targaryen turn 1. I pretty much had board control up to turn 3-4 when she tried to come back with a Wildfire Assault I played a Confiscation so I got rid of Seal of the Hand on her Margaery Tyrell and Lady by killing Viserys Targaryen as a result of the Wildfire Assault. With that, it wasn’t even close, poor girl and I trampled to the win.

As for my thoughts on the deck…Daenerys Targaryen is key, with her Dragons she gets sooo much work done and is not a great Milk of the Poppy target. Ser Jorah Mormont Unsullied did a lot of work, so did the Plaza of Punishment (your opponents have to play around that card + against the risk of Dracarys! every turn!!!)

I really wanted a 3rd Tears of Lys in the deck, it was one of my ways of getting rid of Renown & tough problems like Robert Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy and The Knight of Flowers etc. However I didn’t get as much mileage out of this event as I thought as it was often discarded through claim for and/or I played against a lot of High character decks…my opponents all seemed to be ready for it (however I won soooo many challenges by 5 or more, especially getting 2 with Khal Drogo, I could’ve used Put to the Sword better) Magister Illyrio who I wasn’t sold on, helped me with a lot, however, I never had the gold to trigger his ability (and the 1 time I did, he got milked in my 2nd game…) I believe he runs better in a Targ banner of the Lion deck. Plot wise I took out Wildfire Assault and Counting Coppers last minute to include Confiscation (despite having Viserys) and Filthy Accusations. In hind sight, Filthy Accusations was awesome, Confiscation was ok (it got rid of Milk every game except my last). But I really need to replace Calling the Banners, the deck has enough kill/board control so I never got a good return out of it.

I really want to try-out getting more from Magister Illyrio so I believe the next step for this deck is Banner of the Lion + I mean Tyrion Lannister, Widow’s Wail, The Hound and Treachery!!!

First off…the highlight of the night was the good turnout for the first official 2.0 tourney…meeting new members was cool too.

The look on your face when Dany went to bed was a classic…Win or lose, this game provides moments like that that make this game great to play….It’s the little things we do for love….lol
