This is my Lannister, banner of the Sun deck and it has proven to be quite a resilient deck. I noticed that this deck combination doesn’t currently exist on the site, but I think the combo is quite complimentary and powerful. I’ll go through my choices and explain the thought behind them.

Plots

A Game of Thrones - This should be obvious. With as much Intrigue this deck is packing, this is a fantastic inclusion for this deck. I’d run 2x if I could.

A Noble Cause - I go back and forth on this plot. There are some games where this plot is completely worthless due to the amount of money this deck can passively generate; but, in other games, you get front loaded with Tywin and Jamie and need the extra cash to drop them in. So, for now it stays in, but it will get cut the moment I feel it can.

Confiscation - A staple at this time. I don’t think anybody really wants to run this, but Milk of the Poppy is everywhere and I sometimes need a answer on-demand.

Counting Coppers - This card is amazing, specifically in this deck. Going up 5 cards in one turn is fantastic and provides you with some many options. I typically try to play this as my 3rd-5th plot. By that time I should have enough passive economy on the board and the 2 gold is not a drawback. I typically put 5 to 7 gold into my pool when marshalling. Card draw in this game is so limited, I’ll take whatever I can get (as a Netrunner player, this aspect has been driving me nuts!)

Fortified Position - I only recently came around on this card, but it can be fantastic. I will use this whenever is makes sense to. Typically I want it around plot 4, once I’ve established strong board presence and need to shut down their characters. But, I’ll use it turn one sometimes to prevent Stealth or kneel or other nonsense. Great plot that typically hurts your opponent more than you.

Summons - Again, a version of card draw. I wish this was like the 1.0 version I have heard about (where you can search your deck for a specific character), but I’ll take what I can get. Sometimes you just need a specific character. Something people may not always think about, but you don’t always need to grab a big name card. If I’m in a bad position for a military challenge, I’ll grab a little chud and throw him in the way. Has lots of uses.

Supporting the Faith - Another signature card for this deck. I’d like to take A Noble Cause out and put in another of this one, but it stays this way for now. Once you have Tyrion on the board, this draw back means nothing to you! This has been an amazingly effective tool to shut down card like We Do Not Sow, Winter Is Coming, and Seen In Flames.

Note: The one major thing this plot deck has going against it is initiative. You will almost always be at the mercy of your opponent for if you are going first or second. The deck makes up for this on a lot of ways, which you’ll see below.

Characters

Littlefinger - Pretty straight-forward card. More card draw, and more money. Decent stats and icons too.

Rattleshirt’s Raiders - I love this card. I usually pack 2 of them, but this deck doesn’t need it too much. This card’s effect usually catches people off guard and it’s wonderful. You can use it defensively to remove a Milk, or offensively to kill things like Ice, Throwing Axe, Little Bird or Risen from the Sea.

Ser Jaime Lannister - He’s great. Everybody plays him and so should you. Military is your second most important icon for this deck and you need all that you can muster. Jamie not kneeling to attack is fantastic.

The Tickler - I’m not in love with this card, but, it’s good enough for a 1 of. His icon set is great. His cost is perfect. His effect can randomly ruin someones board state. And, the main reason he’s in the deck, he is a unique Lannister character who can be used to trigger Treachery.

Tyrion Lannister - Another lynch pin for this deck. The earlier you find him, the better. He gets you money for your events. He buffs his dad’s strength. He removes the drawback for Supporting the Faith. He has stealth. Amazing. Keep Tyrion off of drugs at all costs!

Tywin Lannister - Big poppa himself. You absolutely want him. He is one of the few characters than can go toe-to-toe with Robert Baratheon. Combined with passive econ, plot gold and Tryion, you can get Tywin over 20 strength by himself! Triple icon is amazing, preventing poisoning issues. He’s a beast and is wonderful.

Burned Men - Ambush is great and I rarely just marshall these guys. Also great for claim soak. Not a flashy card, but your deck needs cards like this.

Gold Cloaks - Similar to above, though I’d prefer to marshall them instead since I’d like to keep them around. But, in a pinch, the ambush is amazing.

Lannisport Moneylender - You’ll see this below, but I run these guys instead of the Lannister cost reducing location. I prefer the fact that they provide actual gold (which can be played for non-Lannister characters, or events, or to buff Tywin’s strength, etc) instead of simply reducing the cost of a character. Plus, they can work as claim soak when needed. Be careful with them though; don’t pitch them to Wildfire Assaultif you can help it! They are great for helping you recover from just that effect! I’d chuck almost any other non-named character (and even some of them!) instead.

Lannisport Merchant - Yup, they are a card. You need them for claim soak. Whatever.

Maester Caleotte - Love this guy. Originally had him at a 3x, but that seemed like overkill. He is one of key components for this deck getting forced into going second. Lose a challenge with him and strategically strip and icon from a character you actually care about. He is awesome!

Obara Sand - I go back and forth on this card, but at the end of the day she does provide an extra military icon and can block power challenges even while knelt (which is great against Baratheon), so she stays in.

House Dayne Knight - Military and intrigue icon?! Yes please. :) Another chud if needed.

Dornish Paramour - Ahh, another amazing synergy for this deck. This card is AMAZING. Your opponent has an awesome character your trying to play around? Oh wait, is that an intrigue icon? Well, hello there. Her and Tyrion paired together is fantastic too since you can pull someone in and stealth another character, all but ensuring your victory. I’ve been seeing people warm up to her card, often including Syrio’s Training or Noble Lineage (common “binder cards”) to put on her and force other challenges down. I’d be interested in trying that at some time, but this deck probably doesn’t need it.

Locations

The Kingsroad - Yup. Actually, if you draw these later in the game, leave them on the board. You can use the initiative boost.

The Roseroad - Yup, gold is awesome.

Lannisport - CARD DRAW! DO IT! Seriously, no limit card draw is great. You can often get 2 cards a round with this sucker.

Sunspear - Got stuck going second? That’s ok. When I hit back, it’s gonna hurt sucker. Combo’d with Maester Caleotte, this is sick. :) If your opponent tries to play around it by making you go first, awesome. You often want to (but not always, think carefully).

Attachments

Seal of the Hand - Amazing. Put it on Tywin almost always. If you can’t, put it on Jamie. In a pinch, Tyrion. Duplicate it when you draw the second one so you don’t loose it to Confiscation or Rattleshirt’s Raiders. This card can single-handedly swing a game in your favor. And 3 gold means almost nothing to you. You’re house Lannister!

Milk of the Poppy - I’ve heard this card is good.

Widow’s Wail - Used to be a 2x, but it doesn’t seem to warrant that. Dropped to 1x. ALWAYS ambush this card. If you get forced into playing it during setup or something, put it on a chud so you can later play it on someone who matters, at the right moment, like a military challenge with Jamie or Tywin, mostly Jamie though.

Events

Put to the Sword - Yes, you can win a military challenge and you can easily put them down. Why let Stark have all the fun? You can kill people with swords too! :) You will often go into the challenge phase with 2-4 gold, so people will not even think about the fact that they need to play around this card like they do when Stark or Tyrell has only 2 gold.

Tears of Lys - The bread and butter murder option for this deck. You WILL win intrigue challenges and you WILL kill people with this card. Just do it. BUT! Do your military challenge first. If you play Tears first, they will just kill the character marked for death as their claim. This is easy to forgot, but try to remember. Also, the combo with a card further down is amazing.

The Hand’s Judgment - This card is seriously underplayed. But it turns off SO many cards (see the section above on Supporting the Faith). Also, if someone tries to play it against you, you have one to counter with, for free!

Treachery - They are about to trigger Melisandre? Sorry, no. Ice? Sorry, no. Ser Davos Seaworth? Sorry, no. You get the point. This card is amazing and can completely ruin your opponents plans for a round.

Confinement - And the whole reason I put this deck together. This card is fantastic. The number one play right now is probably to use Confinement to strip Melisandre of her icons, win an intrigue and Tears that b*itch. But it has so many more uses too. You can strip Asha Greyjoy of her icons and then her stealth doesn’t mean anything. You can take away someone’s military icon and force through your Put to the Sword. So many options. Use it wisely and it will take you far. :)

And that’s the deck. I’ve found it to be really stable and consistent, able to adapt to whatever house you are playing against. It has so many tricks that people can’t always anticipate what your play is. It’s also a ton of fun to play.

I tested your setups and they are very weak, 2-3 cards and i tested a lot.

omegalife2002 36

@zariusI’m not sure what decks you have been playing that are significantly above that number, except Greyjoy. And most of my setups are 3, sometimes 4. I’ve seen the occasional 5 as well. And I have tested a lot too. I’ve run setup tests on some of the best decks right now, including these Bara fealty decks and they tend to average 3 on setup also. I completely agree that good setups are important, but I don’t think it’s particularly bad in this deck.

Dydra 1494

I’d say setup 4 is good, 5 perfect …. Most of my decks go at 4

Anyway, that’s not the point I wanted to make. Supporting the Faith is not that great, because all the cards u listed, can be cast with Fealty. So it really only surely stops are the 2c events … and there aren’t that many of them. I think in your attempt to be too original, you end up hurting yourself with this plot in particular.

Dydra 1494

I think what he tries to point out is that due to the large number of events in your deck and the larger amount of Limited ( Lannisport Moneylender ) you end up with a weaker setup.

You could certainly pack Taxation to help out with the later.

omegalife2002 36

@DydraI certainly wasn’t trying to be too original. I had just put a deck together that I thought was fun/good and was surprised to see nobody else had posted it yet, so I thought I’d share! :)

I still believe that Supporting the Faith is a solid plot in a Lannister deck. You can’t account for every silver bullet that someones deck can pack. And honestly, at least in my meta, Banner agendas are far more popular than Fealty agenda (for now). So more often than not, this plot is actually making a difference in game play. And at worst, you are costing your opponent tempo by having to save their Fealty use for the event. I don’t play this plot cause it’s original; I play it because I have had good results with it!

I do really like your point about Taxation. Seems like it could be a really solid choice in this deck, particularly with initiative. Thanks!

I dig the deck. Event heavy builds are a lot of fun to play. But man, the setups here are worse than most. That’s the biggest thing I hate about the ambush chuds + moneylenders. Just so many cards that you don’t want in setup.

This looks really interesting. But this deck will be wrecked by the upcoming First Snow of Winter, no?

omegalife2002 36

@etomeny Yeah, that will certainly hurt this deck, but I try not to worry about future proofing against cards that haven’t even been released yet. Once it hits the stores, then it’s time to reflect and retool. Also, that plot is going to wreck a TON of people’s decks. But for now, it’s all good. :)

@omegalife2002No Pycelle? Why did you not include him? Didn’t need the draw?

omegalife2002 36

@robstjohn I went back and forth with Pycelle a lot. I’m still messing around with specifics but I wanted to cut down on non-high impact unique characters (thus no Joffery), and I’ve always found Pycelle a little underwhelming. I might be wrong, but I’ve always found that Lannisport provides enough card draw. I may switch him out with another intrigue character if I experience different. He’s definitely a flex character I could see dropping in.
