Friendly Open Beginners deck: House Stark Fealty

Difficulty: Easy to Medium.

Strategy: This is a Stark Fealty list that leans heavily into the passive power gain offered by Catelyn Stark (WotN). Your game plan is straightforward; get Fat Cat (nickname for Catelyn Stark (WotN)), into play, and keep her protected either with dupes, Bodyguard, or Jory Cassel. You also have Arya's Gift waiting in case your opponent is able to hit her with a negative attachment like Milk of the Poppy. Once she's in play and protected, you trigger her reaction as often as possible to race to the finish, with Riverrun Minstrel there to help speed things along.

If you don't have Catelyn Stark (WotN) in your opening hand or setup, you go find her right away with Heir to the Iron Throne. You have the whole suite of cheap Stark lords and ladies here ready to be sacrificed for the greater good, and if you don't find Cat with your Heir, Robb Stark (Core) and Wyman Manderly (R) are excellent 2nd and 3rd options. Robb's renown and stand win games, and Wyman provides plenty of draw to fuel your other tricks.

Plots: You have a 2nd copy of Heir to the Iron Throne in case the first one doesn't find Catelyn Stark (WotN).

Trading with the Pentoshi can be used as your opener if you've got Fat Cat in hand and want to play her the old fashioned way.

Nothing Burns Like The Cold can help clear problematic locations and attachments.

Winter Festival offers another way of accelerating your power gain.

Return to the Fields (R) can either be played when you suspect a reset, or just to draw cards and put power on Fat Cat.

Wildfire Assault is not the strongest reset, but it offers yet another way of putting power on Fat Cat in the plot phase, and beats both Valar Morghulis and Valar Dohaeris in initiative, ensuring your characters don't have to die in vain.

Other Notes: Stark's characters on the low end of the cost curve are extremely efficient, and sometimes using their abilities synergizes with Catelyn Stark (WotN), like Bran Stark (Core)'s event cancel, or Rickon Stark's search cancel. Bear Island Scout (R) is a solid weenie that can search for other Bear Island Scout (R)'s or find Dacey Mormont, which is another efficient card. Septa Mordane helps you get the most out of Arya Stark (Core) and Sansa Stark (WotN), who are also your best targets for I Am No One (R).

Since a lot of your small characters will wind up being sacrificed or killed while playing this deck, Summer (Core) is there to bring them back to life.

Skagos (R) is one of the strongest locations in the game, and is an enabler of so many tricks. It of course can be used to fuel Fat Cat's power gain, or to trigger Robb's stand. It's also the reason why you've got a second version of Arya Stark (LMHR) and Sansa Stark (Core), who can be swapped in as needed. Wylla Manderly allows you to recycle the cards you've sacrificed, ensuring you never run out of stuff to search for. You can also use Skagos (R) to get multiple triggers out of Summer (Core) or your Riverrun Minstrel, and it can even be used to clear a negative attachment if you don't find an Arya's Gift and you wouldn't lose too much power to do so.

This deck is by Harrison Andersen which is considered to be a master of the "passive power" style of play. Harrison (TJP Profile), is a top-top player, and was in the final of the last instalment the Champions of Westeros with this amazing Drowned God deck.
