I'm a beginner looking for potential pitfalls against decks that I haven't encountered yet. I don't have a lot of people to play against in my area so my deck doesn't get that much experience.

STRATEGY:

Winning challenges is the focus. Ambush Burned Men and Gold Cloaks for and when needed.

Best case scenario: Having Small Council Chamber with Casterly Rock and heavily-invested Red Cloaks to hoard power; Ser Gregor Clegane to ruin opponent's board while a buffed up and Sealed Tywin Lannister (Core) takes care of challenges.

In any case, keep reducing opponent's hand with Cersei Lannister (Core) and kill off with The Queen's Assassin and Tears of Lys. Tywin racks up a decent amount of power; if he doesn't have Seal of the Hand yet, I usually just defend and win Renown.

Worst case scenario: Your opponent is filthy good at , too. That is what Red Cloaks are ideally for. As you keep adding gold, you can start to focus Tywin on other challenges while the Reds take care of your main strategy. Downside is that it takes a while to invest so rush decks are a threat.

EXPERIENCE:

I haven't played in a tournament or against seasoned players, but this is what I've seen this deck is capable of.

  1. Stark Fealty - WIN* - Took advantage of opponent's lack of and discarded 2 of his Jon Snow (WotN) and The Blackfish at some point. He had Robb Stark (Core), Arya Stark (Core), Hodor, and Tumblestone Knight, plus his annoying Winterfell and Winterfell Castle out to make the Challenge Math confusing. He fixated on kneeling Winterfell to stop Gregor's ability, which was a bummer. It was 13-13 (like I said, rush decks are a threat; but he was so vulnerable to unopposed and Small Council Chamber) and he still had no out so I plotted a Sneak Attack to make sure I went first. I assume he still didn't draw any because he conceded after draw phase.

  2. Targaryen Fealty - WIN - None of the dreaded cards came out (Dany, Drogo, MMD), whereas I setup Tyrion Lannister (Core) with a dupe and Small Council Chamber. I Stealth-ed Rhaegal on , inducing my opponent to kneel Magister Illyrio and winning the challenge to drop Tears of Lys on Dothraki Outriders. I kept a Brothel Madame out so he'd have to remember to keep 1 gold (on top of the 2 that I knew he kept to activate Illyrio) and slapped a Paid Off on Ser Jorah Mormont to make at least 1 gold come to me. He cried Dracarys! on Cersei but being able to Stealth with Tyrion was enough. I eventually won thanks to SCC, Tywin's Renown, and dominance.

  3. Tyrell Banner of the Kraken - WIN - Opponent setup The Knight of Flowers with a Mare in Heat, and then Trading with the Pentoshi to put up The Queen of Thorns on Round 1. Luckily, I had Tywin Lannister (Core) and Treachery so he chose to kill TKoF. I made sure that the Queen never won any challenges and I Paid Off his Randyll Tarly. His economy was never enough and he never got Margaery Tyrell out. By the time his first came out (Theon Greyjoy) I had already racked up power on Twyin (who had Seal) and from dominance to convince him to concede.

  4. Martell Fealty - WIN - Opponent didn't get the combo he wanted of Nymeria Sand and Tyene Sand early enough since I discarded his first copy of Tyene. I also had The Iron Throne out relatively early so I knew he wouldn't bother leaving anyone standing. I did The Things I Do For Love to return Arianne Martell to reduce his total STR, waste his gold in some other turn, and avoid a surprise Areo Hotah. I had gotten up to +11 STR on a Red Cloak by the time he Attainted it, but I had Tywin, Cersei, and Tyrion out and my last was Wildfire. I had killed Maester Caleotte with Ser Ilyn Payne earlier to avoid losing icons. He shifted from stealing with Nymeria to when he got The Red Viper (at this point Tyene was almost useless) but it was too late because Wildfire was up next anyway and I had to kill 4 . He had around 4 power to my 13 after the 7th , then he conceded.

* My opponent used Ryan4815's HoD Gates of Winterfell - 2nd Blackwater Bay '16 [1.0] and I actually used an older version of my Lannister Fealty without Trading with the Pentoshi and A Noble Cause, so my fantastic economy never took off. This version is a lot better now so I hope it won't get to 13-13 against a rush deck anymore.

INSIGHTS:

  • GOLD: So multi-talented in this deck – marshaling, computing Challenge Math, winning dominance, and frustrating your opponent with Paid Off and Brothel Madame.

  • SLOW: Every game took a while to finish (no sooner than Round 5 maybe) but my opponent (besides ) amassed power very slowly and irregularly while I was just picking them up every turn, either through dominance or Tywin's Renown. (SCC helped, too, but it has a low draw probability.)

  • TYWIN: He usually contributes around 4-5 power by the end, probably more if I have Seal on him. So I take a lot of measures to keep him alive with like Treachery and The Hand's Judgment.

So what do you think? Please and thank you!

It's a nice deck, i'd drop a moneylander for the third kingsroad and maybe 1 queen'assassin and the wildling for 2 trial by combat or PTTS If u do not use trial think about dropping 1 cersei for pycelle ( 2nd pycelle if u drop 1 gold cloak) Maybe try to use summer harvest to avoid pentoshi and a different claim 2 plot, winds or famine instead of sneak That'my 2 cent =)

Thank you, @Pietroia!

: Sadly, I don't have Calm Over Westeros, otherwise heck yeah Trial by Combat would be killer! Hmm I wasn't sure about putting those "win by 5 STR" but after seeing it be very possible even with just Tywin, I think I will make room for Put to the Sword.

: Aw, man, Famine would be awesome, too, if I had it. :( Actually the reason I put Sneak Attack wasn't even because of the 2 claim; it was for the 11 initiative so I could go first if I needed to get that last power to win the game. If I got "stuck" with it, I don't mind forgoing challenges and just defending. Is that a bad idea? Also, my opponents' Pentoshi doesn't frustrate me as much (I'd put Naval Superiority if I wasn't terrified of guessing wrong haha) so I'll play a few more games and see if Summer Harvest has a place. :)

: I'll take your advice on the 3rd Kingsroad; the gold savings might be useful in a pinch. I had Grand Maester Pycelle in older versions but with 3 gold for 2 STR I thought he was kinda lame and kept killing him. I'm considering him again because Insight is useful when I run out of cards in my hand – what do you think he's useful for? I might need Wildling though for / – what do you think?

Thanks for your feedback! It gave me a lot to think about. :)

I think 2 or 3 x pycelle is very useful cause it's so easy for u to win int challenge that u can't ignore him and his insight ( especially if u do not use lannisport) Sneak attack it's cool but i think that u ar going to scare your opponent more with a full claim 2 plot , when u can menace even with all 3 challenge If u need an high initiative plot to close maybe i'd think about clash of kings Ptts is there to scary everyone when u make mil with gregor and jaime Wildling ar cool m8, but 5 gold? I dont think u can use 5 gold for him... Omg i c now u hace not a 3x the hound O.o U need to find some space for him i think that he is one of the best lanni card, especially when u have tyrion drop something but find at least 2 slot for him =)

Sry.. i c now that fron cell the text it's without "." I hope u can understand even with that chaos :p

Thanks, @Pietroia! I fought the Stark Fealty HoD deck again (lost twice, won once) and now considering some edits:

Sadly, I don't have The Hound but you're right; the Tyrion + Casterly Rock combo would be awesome. I'm at my limit so no extra The Kingsroad for now. Economy got dangerously tight during the game I won but hopefully Lannisport/Pycelle fixes my draw problem so that won't be an issue anymore.

I am still only considering these but I just cut 3 and possibly 2 more, all for non-. That seems... bad. Any suggestions other than I really need to get Taking the Black for The Hound? Haha.

I think that pycell > lannisport for his power icon even if he has low str or he is under first snow I also think that 3xcersei with no trial is not so cool, so if u need some slot drop 1 Maybe take in the 3rd jaime and yes, u should buy "take the black" cause the hound is a huge char =)
