Diomedes 1198

I'm a proud follower of House Baratheon, so despite their position at the bottom of the meta right now I played the crowned stags in 2 tournaments - and was rewarded for my loyalty both times! Sadly there is no Stannis in the decks, but you can't have anything at once. :P

After winning the Brawl with this Kings of Summer I wanted to try something else. This Qohor Rose is a bit more common - and rightly so because this is a pretty strong deck. I took this to a regional and won 4 of my 8 games 15-0, among them the semifinals and the finals. This deck is crazy fast! But in the current meta you need to be fast, otherwise the goodstuff decks are hard to beat.

Drowning in a sea of Wars decks the GOAT really is a godsend! Congrats to Florian for an awesome agenda! It's playable for all factions, enables some cool tricks, and makes so many unused cards finally seeing some play. This is everything a champion card should do! Amazing design! I was playing Bara Rose before because King at the Wall is the most interesting card has received for a long time. Qohor makes it so much more consistent. Done are the days of wasting a plot slot for Building Orders. :)

Horny Knights

  • The opener Peace and Prosperity might surprise you, but it's pretty solid when you have so many . I try not to play cost 2 locations in setup if I have one in my starting hand, so I can get the full 8 gold out of the plot, but a 7 gold opener is fine, too. Most importantly this plot lets you win initiative against most other openers (except Summer Harvest, but you're fine with that :P ) You want to go first with this deck most of the time. An additional bonus is that Behest can't take advantage of your plot.
  • This deck wants to win fast, so you have 2 finishing plots (You Win Or You Die, A Tourney for the King) in the deck. This flexibility was great all day.
  • Milk of the Poppy is more present than ever, so Confiscation is a good plot. Getting rid of high-cost attachments is also nice.
  • You have 2 control plots, Barring the Gates and The King in the North, with the latter usually being plot 2 after putting the king attachment into play round 1.

Regional Dortmund

Round 1 Win vs Summer

1st round, and I face my own winning deck from last weekend. :D He made the proposed changes with a 2nd Grand Melee and 3x Red Keep, which seemed good. He could control my You Win Or You Die turn with Selyse even though I made him go first, but Melisandre saw something in the Flames. No negative attachments on his side were the key that I could finally break through.

Round 2 Loss vs Crossing

2nd round, and I'm up against my Song Deck, hilarious! :P I was about to win on my Tourney for the King turn just being 3 power short and attacking with 3 knights, but he had a 2nd TIBWHID for some suprise tricks: Last Giant Mag to defend, then a marshaled Jaqen H'ghar retaliated. Next round he had a STR 16 intimidate Randyll Tarly when we both played You Win Or You Die. I could go first, but couldn't get through anymore.

Round 3 Win vs. Wars

His Summer Harvest hit my Peace and Prosperity, so I had twice as much gold from the plot being able to marshal a cost 2 location with The Honeywine. He played an icon control deck with Nymeria and Darkstar in play round 1. I had 2 Little Birds to counter this a bit, so tricon Bob could at least do 1 challenge. The King in the North round 2 was enough to win 15-0 that round even with Forced March kneeling Bob. I had 2 Courtiers, The Honeywine and Messi. :)

Round 4 Win vs. Qohor Wolf

He had a very bad setup with Elinor Tyrell and Highgarden Courtier after a mulligan. Even though Ward was pretty good he couldn't recover from his terrible start. Another 15-0.

Round 5 Loss vs. Wars

I always lose against Kai in the swiss (and then win in the cut :P) He killed a lord for claim with Margaery round 1, but I was first player, so she got some goat milk before her trigger. :D I made a mistake sacrificing that milk for a Little Bird, because he defended and I couldn't milk her again. So I was forced to play Barring the Gates against his Valar Morghulis to prevent Mace or Renly from entering play. He cleared another Milk on Marge with Confiscation, and the third one with Mace. I could still have won, but he had a 2nd Milk for Bob. :/ So I could only reach 13 power, and his Mace ran free.

Top 8 Win vs. Fealty

Round 1 was very interesting, I had Ser Garlan with 3 attachments and Ser Davos with King at the Wall, Green Apple and a Vanguard Lancer. Which one to ward? :P He opted for Garlan. I won and milked his Wyman Manderly in time for a trigger, then milked Arya after the 2nd challenge to prevent him from winning being afraid of Winter Is Coming and Marched to the Wall. His STR 6 Garlan was only STR 3 now after losing 2 attachments, so my Green-Apple Knight could defend with the help of a Jousting Pavilion. He Beyond Reproach the 2 milks, but I could confiscate the Ward to save the 3rd attachment on Garlan. Without Manderly's draw, I was able to control the game, even though he played a 2nd ward on Garlan.

Top 4 Win vs. Wars

Rematch! I opened The King in the North this time, but he had his one Crown of Golden Roses in hand. This time he didn't see Milk of the Poppy, though. So the dream team Bob+Messi was unstoppable. I had 14 power at the end of round 3 to his 2. He tried to stop me with Breaking Ties returning 2 power Messi and 3 power Honeywine to my hand. But Bob, Nightsong, Ser Cortnay Penrose and 1 Vanguard Lancer were enough to win 6 power with claim, Nightsong's ability and renown from Tourney for the King. I had 1 Green-Apple Knight with a Tourney Lance able to win 2 challenges anyway.

Top 2 Win vs. Wars

Undefeated Lennart was playing an interesting big guys deck: Doran, Oberyn, Arianne, even Ellaria and Ser Gerris Drinkwater. I had Messi and Davos, turn 1 ended 1-0 for me. But then things got interesting: I had seen he plays Forgotten Plans in previous games. After his Long Plan opening I was expecting Behest now. Even though I didn't have King at the Wall out, I played The King in the North to make him play Forgotten Plans, which he did. Being able to use my Great Hall and reducer, I could marshal Bob and a courtier. Two challenges phases with tricon Bob making 3 challenges (supported by A Tourney for the King round 3) was enough to win 15 power, even though he didn't get a single power all game I could steal with challenges.

Glückwunsch again ;) I play a similar Deck with a similar plot-line (Peace and Prosperity is a great opener, I really like when the opponent Runs into summer harvest with it and Martell Wars don't hit hard with naval). I maybe have to reconsider the Honeywine, had it in a early build but eventually dropped it. Anyway, funny name: horny? lol. My decks name is "The King in the North and his thorny Knights" Maybe I'll rename it ;)

Wait, is Bara the best faction now? =D Hats off to you, sir!

Diomedes 1198

@Palpa Haha, thanks! I thought it would be a clever name with all the stags and goats, and the pronunciation of knights. :P "(T)horny" would have been even better to include the cards! :D

@jeermaster Thank you for the brilliant agenda! :D

Great deck and performance! As I wrote on FB, I run very similar one, but your plot choices are much better. :)

I just realized one think. Peace and Prosperity is really a great opener. I used it too and it worked perfectly against all various decks. But it is not true that Martell can't hit you badly with his At Prince Doran's Behest. Actually if your opponent in finals started with that plot he could have change it into Forgotten Plans and slow you with only two gold to use. :) But I agree that this could be really very rare situation. :)

Great player and great deck! And Bara is back in the meta which is good for the game. :)

Diomedes 1198

Oh, that's true, I didn't think of that. :D It's not the strongest effect to have 2 gold more than the opponent, but -6 gold would have hit me hard for sure. Luckily he saved At Prince Doran's Behest for a later round to blank The King in the North, A Tourney for the King or Barring the Gates.

Congrats man, finally you did it! ;)

Diomedes 1198

@TacoBill The Brotherhood Without Banners is my favourite agenda! I was playing a R'hllor deck and a Knights deck with this agenda. But Breaking Ties just kills it! This plot is so bad for the game. If you want a deck based on non-loyal cards, you need to play Rush nowadays (like I do with this deck or my Song deck).

@Harren Thanks for the testing of this deck! ;)

I’ve been playing this deck and noticed a couple things. Why have triple Ser Davos but single Bastard of Nightsong? Seems like it should be reversed. Also, what about slotting in the Red Keep? Maybe take out one of each of Roseroad and Kingsroad to make room for double Red Keep? This deck can have issues with draw, and Red Keep helps with winning power challenges which most of these Bara knights want to do badly.

Diomedes 1198

As you say, winning challenges is crucial, and Ser Davos does that better than Nightsong. He's cheaper, and often the opponent has no power to steal for Nightsong. There is no Close Call in this deck, that's another point for the Onion Knight. :) The only disadvantage is the susceptibility to Ward. If you expect lots of wolves, play Nightsong!

This deck can only have draw issues if you don't see your locations. Otherwise, the King at the Wall's draw is far more reliable than The Red Keep.
